What happened to Chris Wilson?

Maybe Chris will be in charge of POE 1, that would be the hope the game will still be great, unless he was the one pushing for Ruthless like someone here mentioned.

Guys, i dont wanna disturb worshipping Chris, but...
Am i the only one witnessing that PoE2 is EXACTLY the game Chris Wilson's dream of 'Ruthless' was all about? It's the EXACT copy of Ruthless 2 years ago, with it's insane punishment, casino crafting and git gud arenas. Not a single mentally intact businessman would EVER call poe2's base concept a solid foundation for an arpg supporting f2p seasonal restarts. The campaign is of exhausting length, the missing loot is demotivating, the casino crafting is demotivating, the insane exp punishment is demotivating, the 1-death-per-map is demotivating, the skill tree doesn't have depth that could be motivating, the walking distances are demotivating. Everyone can critizise Tencent, but for one thing: they DO know how to make money. And all the stuff above is not a way to make money, it's the complete opposite: a game that will fail as a seasonal installment with so much demotivational content. It's Chris Wilson's ruthless vision. I doubt even at GGG there has EVER been a single employee agreeing to this direction. Chris Wilson was OBSESSED by this idea, you can read about it anywhere, he was ready to DIE on that hill, even if this direction will ruin the game. And now, two years later, despite of all the community's disagreement regarding his ruthless vision back then, a company famous for making money is settling on this pure insanity of an arpg idea? Really? Although nobody (and i bet even at GGG: nobody) will call this a solid vision ensuring longterm retention for PoE2? I don't know guys, but it seems to me PoE2 is ALL about Chris Wilson still influencing, still stubbornly ignoring the fact that his vision will not work. It seems to me, that he is still the only person fighting to die on that hill for a vision nobody wants. And it seems to me, he's clearly in position to push PoE2 into this direction, no matter the costs. I can not see a company with rational eonomic incentives would in any way ever accept such a mess of direction. Last edited by AngryGekko#0233 on Dec 22, 2024, 1:29:29 AM

" Poe 2 is currently as successful as a game can possibly be, what are you yapping about. Just look up the numbers |

" where did chris say that? seems untrue. citation needed please "Path of Exile's engine is currently modern, lean and fast." - Chris Wilson, September 19th, 2019
"It looks like we broke something with 3.10.0. We don't know what it is yet." - Bex, March 16th, 2020 |

" I don't believe he said it in words was the poster's point, but it doesn't matter. Chris built a successful gaming company in his vision, more or less I'm sure anyway, and then was given the opportunity to cash out in a big way giving him the opportunity to do whatever he wants for the rest of his life. Whatever happened or will happen after that to PoE will be without Mr. Wilson's input - he's won the only game that matters. Wish him well. |

If the three directors sold their shares and their souls for "money" then there you have it, their loyal players and the fate of their legacy that you criticize so much today. Unfortunately MONEY can corrupt the purest soul and the best intentions in this world, so all of you who complain about the drift that Poe 1 is suffering already know who you have to point out as guilty... they have sold us all for a handful of millions of dollars, so be aware once and for all that what has always interested GGG as any other company is money, to a greater or lesser extent, but now it is clear after the situation you are living. I still love Poe and Poe 2 and I think that at least Poe 2 still has a lot to prove but well, most of you open a thread every day to complain about the state of abandonment of Poe, so here they have introduced you to the three people most responsible for it.
