Ascendancy changing
I think for poe 2 should allow player change Ascendancy like poe 1.
The idea is player should respec all points from Ascendancy and run a trial again to change Ascendancy but you need to run again to get all point . For example if you just finish a floor of sanctum you only get 2 points if your character already has > 2 points of Ascendancy Last bumped on Feb 5, 2025, 8:42:39 PM

I picked blood mage and now I am permanently weaker as ever.

im an acolyte of chyula monk, and seeing that there just arent great chaos skills/conversions (atleast for monk melee) its not what i was hoping, i was thinking to make a hand of chyula, multi cursing- CoC hexblast... but sadly even using wands and focus its weak.. not to mention gggs nerf to cast on gems in poe2 it wont proc every time i crit even if i managed 100% crit rate... making hand of chyula for a chaos monk build pretty useless especially since i could just throw the curses into blasphemy, yet making hex blast still pretty bad without spell damage scaling which as a monk is pretty hard to get... making the ascendancy seem PRETTY FRCKIN USELESS.

This should have been a mechanic implemented from the beginning many players regret their choices and would like to change them.

Guess I picked the wrong ascendancy (blood mage) so character is just trash. Already 50 hours into the game. No shot I'm gonna restart right now. Why would we not be able to change it? who does this help? how is this fun? how does this make the game better? Guess I'm done with early access. maybe come back for season but if the devs think this is a good idea, I have little faith in the devs.

I agree that players should have the ability to change their ascendancy choice.
The initial decision is presented at a point where players have invested a good deal of time into the game but are still learning, and almost certainly still making mistakes. Presenting them with a permanent choice at this point which can potentially leave them with lingering regrets is a bad design that shows a lack of respect for the time (and potentially money) a player has invested into your game. Faced with the choice of starting the same class all over again to "correct" my ascendancy choice or walking away from the game and investing my gaming time on another product, I believe I would choose the latter. What is the harm in allowing the player the freedom to experiment until they can settle on a build they truly like? This philosophy clearly exists all over the game save for this one little but vital element, which just doesn't make any sense. Please reconsider this design choice. |

I definitely think this should be an option. I dont know why they want the decision to be permanent.. same goes with runes but that's another topic.
I would even be happy with something like you need to do the last trial again to have the option to change your path or something like that if they want to make it hard to change your decision. It just feels bad considering how much time you invest to level up a character, doing the trials etc. Then if you end up in a situation where you constantly think that your character would be more powerful with the other ascendancy path because in end game you decided to try other kind of build. That just sucks and i dont see the point why it is permanent decision. |

Didn't GGG say during the release livestream that ascendancy respeccing wont be available at launch but will be at some point in development cycle. No idea when they implement it but it WILL be.

We should absolutely be able to change it. I cannot even begin to understand why they would lock it in with POE2.

+1
I know one of the devs is strongly against it because of personal preference (he said himself he doesn't have a specific reason). However with so many classes coming to the game, all having 3 ascendancies, locking the player to her/his first choice doesn't seem fair. Especially since when you select your ascendancy you're such a low level that it's really hard to make an informed decision. One might get seduced by a nice 2d art or a skill description that sounds awesome only to find out 45 levels later that another option would better suit her/his playstyle. Being locked in this way is very punishing for players who don't read or watch meta-guides and for people who like to experiment. |
