Endgame: PoE vs D3

D3 actually has no endgame at all.
You simply keep playing the same content.

Not true at all.
Farming for BiS IL63's in Inferno is end game.
Repetitively farming content appropriate to your character and gear level is common in any RPG/ARPG.

Another subjective opinion. I couldn't possibly care less about PvP. I don't play RPG's to beat my chest at other players. I play this genre for loot and PvM content.
The travesty in D3, is the boring loot, and horrible drop rate on anything decent, leading you to the AH/RMAH.
The travesty is in how mind numbingly boring the game is, and the sting of the constant slap in the face to do challenging encounters and get absolutely nothing for 10's of hours, but vender trash, and gold.

I don't care what you like. PvP is what makes the whole gear grind thing worth the time... without it the whole game has ZERO meaning.

I will also point out that all opinions are subjective... you pointing out that my opinion was subjective is synonymous with you pointing out that you are stupid.

At least you see that the drop rates are absolutely terrible and the game is just funneling people en masse to the auction houses.

Considering I can already PvP through the bandit quest in PoE I believe that the endgame content in the PoE beta is hands down better than D3s... which as I stated before is non-existant. Grinding for gear with no purpose for that gear is not end game imho.. if I had a reason to be farming that gear (PvP) I might accept that.
D3 has no endgame.
Endgame is the RMAH and our wallets.

Endgame is playing you.
ZOMG ITS BETA TIME!

http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/23123 This is why.
thats pretty awesome... I'm personally enjoying d3 a lot, but it is obviously lacking. If Inferno was actually progression instead of just keep bashing your head till you get through it would of been a lot better. With that said I wouldn't mind one bit if this keeps me preoccupied till d3 gets fixed (hopefully gets fixed) or beyond no reason to keep to one game.
I enjoy diablo 3 for what is is.

Thing is, right now it's not much.

PoE from what i've seen is trying to bring wicked endgame to the table, and innovating. These guys deserve my money, i'll probably buy a CBT key soon enough!

You simply keep playing the same content. At some point you burn out considering there isn't even PvP in the game, which is a major travesty.

In reality the end game in D3 is botting and waiting for a PvP patch that may or may not come out. Pretty much all there is to the game.

That sounds like PoE to me. Jesus... the morons on this board. Both games lack end game right now.

Hey, no need to be rude. That said, I disagree. I haven't even played the game, but from what I've SEEN it has D2's endgame (more than a decade). Allow me to expand :P (I like arguing about games.) This game has probably one of the biggest skill trees (skill FOREST) I've seen in a long time, and how it's set up is really quite clever, with everyone sharing the same tree but starting at different places. The gem system exp for skills is great, with support gems as well, the gems and the passive tree allow for each char you make (even if it's the same class) to be an entirely different playstyle. Plus, the gems allow for serious twinking. The Hardcore-death-push-to-standard idea is amazing, it really makes people want to try hardcore, which is more endgame. Different leagues allow for MORE endgame. Constantly updated content from a smaller, not-focused-entirely-on-WoW-and-only-making-D3-to-earn-cash company will mean new content, which is even MORE endgame. Opposed to that, D3 is 5 classes with unique skills that you always unlock at the same times. Runes offer a bit of variety but there are ones that obviously have no purpose but filler. (I'm sure PoE has skills that are obviously inferior to others but when the tree is that huge it doesn't really matter..) D3 is almost impossible to twink except with gems that boost your atts instead of skills, and they're only able to be leveled up for a LOT of your oh-so-precious gold that will take hours and hours to mindlessly grind Inferno, which is just a push to the RMAH, like EVERYTHING in D3. I've been trying Inferno for a while now, and it's pretty frustrating to do if you don't want to spend 250 dollars on a 900dps 1h weapon. Inferno is basically a difficulty where you bash your head against a rock wall until you either realize you're wasting your time, pay a lot of money to get steel skull implants, or by random chance you SOMEHOW make it through by doing it for a long time. And then you quit because you have a headache.

Maybe I just suck at D3, but I personally am STOKED for this game. I can see a LOT of theory-crafting and twinking coming my way soon. Sorry for the wall of text, and I don't want a flame war or anything, I just wanted to give my opinion.

That all said though, this game needs something like a DH from D3. Dual wielding crossbows is just SO badass.
I love how my pic looks like a raging seal. Sorta.
What a stupidly bias thread. I agree that D3 has terrible/non-existent endgame, but all you guys' arguments are just hyperbolic trash.

Don't get why people get so worked up. We're just having a discussion. About VIDEO GAMES.

Don't read too much into this thread, guys. It's not really about end-game stuff. The main point is a comparison of the artistic style and player immersion of the two games.

With D3, you get polygonal, water-colored art. The game makes you feel like you're playing a game. Everything about the interface screams "You're playing a video game!" The game's sense of humor, including Whimsyshire, promote this feel. Max Schaefer had similar feelings about D2's cow level. It was meant as a joke. The Blizzard North guys did the same thing later with Hellgate. It was chock-full of references and jokes. If anything, Whimsyshire is the most Diablo-esque thing about D3. I still don't like it, though. I hated the cow level, too.

With PoE, you get realistically shaped and colored art. The game is meant to draw you into playing the role of the character, and I think it does that well. The interface isn't overbearing to the point of blatantly removing the immersion.

Anyway, that's the "hidden message" I get from this thread.

Yes...this is why I enjoyed Diablo 1 so much. I will never forget meeting The Butcher for the first time. I was around 11 years old and it scared the hell out of me.

A decade later, my blood pressure is still recovering, even with a daily dose of fish oil.

tl;dr = if your game doesn't make a 10 year old shit himself, it doesn't deserve to be named a Diablo sequel

I think Whimseyshire may have been the best part of Diablo 3.

Let's say someone is doing Whimseyshire runs on a laptop in a public setting.

I would imagine onlookers unaware of what D3 is would start to question the player's sexual orientation.

I didn't pay $60 so I could farm a kiddie playground all day and have people question my sexuality.

I'm as queer as a three dollar bill and think that whimsyshire is childish and out of place.

Stop stereotyping.
