Why dedicate my time if I can lose all my XP with a death penalty?

Why invest hours into a game to risk losing everything with one mistake? For some, penalties add excitement, but for others, they turn fun into frustration. A simple solution? Add an option to toggle penalties—offering a challenge for those seeking it and freedom for those not. Let every player enjoy the journey their way.

For now, I’ve uninstalled the game. I’ll return if GGG realizes they’re losing players for no good reason.

The least they could do is make them a toggle either in the atlas tree with extra rewards if you opt-in to these penalties. Or literally on character creation as checkboxes, but you still share the same softcore trade league economy with everyone else. Or as options in the settings menu. Anything.

I'm also never touching this game unless big changes are made to death penalties, I play Softcore, I shouldn't be punished for dying as if its in Hardcore. This is simply unacceptable.

If it was GGG's intention to chase away many players and make them quit with these death penalties, then they've accomplished exactly that.
The main reason there's penalties is so players actually develop skills and feel rewarded for hitting level 95+, especially level 100.
Without penalty, noobies like you would be able to just grind t1 whites for 500 hours to achieve that goal.

Tantrum like that is not a way to provide feedback.

The XP penalty is there to make reaching very high level something for skilled players and good builds. If you could corpse run your way to level 100, it would detract from the achievement.

Every good ARPG has it. PoE1 has it, Last Epoch has it, Diablo 2 has it. The ones that do not, reaching max level is ridiculously easy and effortless.

No, people can already grind boring safe content to do that. And that makes the game restricting and boring for no reason. How about they give all the hardcore people that think lvl95 or 100 is an """achievement""" in the year 2025 a seperate ladder and race events then? Keep these outdated death penalty mechanics out of the main game. They shouldn't ever exist in any modern game they're just a waste of time and nothing else lmao

No they do not make me develop skills, they don't benefit me in any way. They just annoy me and waste my time. So that means these designs are a complete failure. So they should just change.

Level 100 was never an achievement, never will be.

It's valuable and valid feedback. Exp penalty doesn't make reaching 100 an "achievement". It just means people copy paste a meta build and do safe, boring content. What a display of skill that is. Just like how everyone in that gauntlet event played the exact same CI Trickster Ephemeral Edge build lmao, this is what death penalties do to a game. They make it bland and restrict player choice and freedom.

I realy would like to see the skills required to deal with badly visible effects. Or with high damage attacks that have no visible windup.

Without penalty players would simply play the game. Some would be faster than others. There would still be a reason to not die, als moving back to where you where still eats up time. The game would be less boring that way because you would not be forced to decide between progress for your character and challenges.

You may enjoy the pain and the XP penalty, but understand that no matter what you think, GGG is losing a lot of players with this. It's not smart to loose money on something that could be configurable.

I and many others won't come back as long as the XP penalty exists. We have other options to dedicate our time without wasting it.

Correct me if iam wrong, but the information i have is that there is no loss on death in Last Epoch.
I hope they never cater to this level of entitlement
