Why dedicate my time if I can lose all my XP with a death penalty?

I thought the death penalty was only 10%. When do we start losing all of it in a death?

They must have been playing hardcore?

You can't lose all your XP. Even if you keep doing completely inappropriate content for your character and you keep dying, XP loss can only ever take you to the start of your current level. So feel free to invest as much time as you want.

Nope, people will quit instead of having their time wasted by this game with outdated mechanics. Diablo 2 happened eons ago, it's not some perfect game. And most people today don't enjoy on-death penalties.

Ok, bye.

Ok, how is that a bad thing? People should not play games they don't enjoy. This is the right thing to do.

Because GGG don't want that to happen. The game will die. It would be impossible to sustain PoE 2 as a f2p live-service game with leagues every 3 months as it is right now. Big changes need to happen.

You can't just chase away all players that are giving feedback, then you end up with the same player numbers as Ruthless. Why do you think that gamemode is the least popular one in PoE 1? The main audience of this game is in SC Trade. And if GGG hopes to ever attract an even wider audience than that, then those new players shouldn't be getting chased away by bad game design.

So stop trying to gatekeep and chase players away from this game. This is a feedback forum and people are giving their feedback in order to improve this game.

And stop blaming the player for everything, this isn't about "making mistakes".

The OP literally used the word "mistake". He admitted to making one.

He just refuses to accept that mistakes should be filtering people from reaching the highest tiers of endgame.

You can attempt a boss in Elden Ring one hundred times, at no cost other than time, and fluke it once. XP penalty in PoE exists to check for consistent play (provided the curve is adjusted properly and there is no "safe xp farming").

Why invest hours into a game to risk losing everything with one mistake?

"Losing everything". Rich statement. You make it sound like you lose your character when you die. Have you tried making fewer mistakes?

If you can't make fewer mistakes, that might mean this is the ceiling for you. Progress is not guaranteed. Wraeclast should not give out participation trophies.

No, people can already grind boring safe content to do that.

Level 100 was never an achievement, never will be.

If they ever remove or reduce the xp penalty, I hope they also massively nerf xp gain, so that, say, from level 90 onward, plain T15s give ZERO xp and you need to do them corrupted, irradiated, and with that +1 from the bossing atlas tree.

Im honest with you, playing corrupted or irradiated nodes for XP would be a much better deal than the current loss. Besides that i still wait for someone bringing up an actual reason why removing it would be bad.
Deal with it, play better, stop sucking, 1 or 2 weeks ago these same guys were calling poe vets unskilled etc for calling out GGG on some bad designs, and now they are all crying because of XP loss wich PoE 1 vets been dealing with for over 10 years and it was even higher.

Git gud scrubs (that´s what you kept saying right?)

Have you heard of PoE 1, it is still doing pretty well and has done so for over a decade. Not dead at all.

Ok so you want PoE 2 to just die and never get content again? Because that's what will happen if the devs ignore the feedback that matters. "Just go play PoE 1" is no argument at all. It's getting really old now.

Big changes need to happen or this game is doomed because of "The Vision".
Even Super Mario Bros gives you 3 lives.
No one is forcing you to, but more importantly you can only lose "all" of your XP within a level.

You could also gain the satisfaction of overcoming the death XP and feel good about that, but it's sounding like you just want everything for free.
Step 1 is to self reflect.
