Why dedicate my time if I can lose all my XP with a death penalty?
I have much more significant "achievments" to work for in real life than beating any "crappy" videogame (and here I speak generically, not about PoE2 specifically).
Videogames won't give me ANYTHING in return for playing them, so they must be a hobby or a leasure time for me, not a chore. So, yeah... reaching lv 100 just to "prove" something for myself (dunno what is to prove?), like having the nerd resillience of wasting hundreds of hours of my life just to pass trhough some dumbfuck 1-shot troll or poorly designed mechanics put in maps just to "accomplish" dinging 100 in a useless virtual character somewhere in a virtual world is out of the table for me. People here can feel special about themselves for doing it whenever they want to, I'll just reach lv 90 in some characters, test them and then I'll be done here, cause the "endgame" will just get repetitive, boring and time wasting for now. PS: Oh, and btw doing maps are hellish boring. No sense of progression anywhere, just a random infinite created world where you can't beat or complete in any way, with cidatels and any more juicy stuff just out of the reach for 99.9% of players (specially without trading for stones, etc). 2 weeks on endgame and not a SINGLE cidatel. Not going to happen.
The reason is, that there is more people saying "the game isn't for everyone" than other players. I don't have insights into GGG's development progress and their operating mechanisms, but from observing all the approaches towards POE1 development, I personally believe that a EXP reward is the only thing possible in POE, as it is the easiest way to implement, like that one Southpark Episode; "The simpsons already did it", in this case, "Diablo already did it". Its easier to just copy that approach. It is antiquated, i agree, it comes from a time when games were too easy, you could shred Diablo 2 even on the highest difficulty, so for those rare instances you died, you got EXP penalty and steep money loss. We can be lucky we dont also lose half our stash when we die in normal. |

Just find a new game. This game is for masochists. Sadly I am one. For poe1 though. No chance I play any more poe2. So bad.
PoE 1 is the best. PoE 2 is something.

I don't even mind PoE 2 being trash, just means I get lots of free time between PoE 1 leagues(so around 2-3 months if they actually go back to the old cycle) to play other stuff and focus on other things. Don't care how many shiny MTX rewards leagues have in PoE 2, ain't touching this D2-nostalgia fangame full of senseless punishments. Simply not worth my time or effort. |

Because it makes the game more fun when you lose xp because it makes you care more about not dying. Do not remove exp penalties.
