The next months will dictate how GGG will really handle the nature of this game
I'm one of many people who dislike the 1-dimentional skill spamming style of PoE1. Yeah... it is cool for a while, but gets stale really fast. I bought the early access key for PoE2 just because they said the game would be different.
It is extremely simple: - Game is in Early access, and that's fine, I can wait for balance patches. - GGG stated clearly that they don't want 1-dimensional playstyle for the game, they want combos and slower, more meaningful combat. - Mobs are PoE1 style. They require fast spam gameplay. So... Now is the time, we have reached a crucial point. It can only go 2 ways from here: 1- Either GGG will nerf mobs, rework mechanics, Ritual, Breah, etc to less insane levels. OR 2- They will continue to introduce and balance content around 1-dimentional DPS kill or be killed playstyle. It is not a matter of opinion or taste. GGG said something, so either they do what they said, or they do the opposite. It is that simple. The next few months will dictate how things will go. I'm expecting that sunday we'll learn much more about which direction PoE 2 will go. I am very curious about it too. In my view, wouldn't make sense to go on PoE 1 direction after all this work, it also would contradict to what they want to make as I understand it. But, who knows, we need to hear it from themselves.

Yeah, I'm curious too.
The only way to achieve what they said is to reduce the importance of gear/stat check and reward player skill more. Even builds that aren't very optimized should be able to clear everything. Hoping they go down that player-skill-focused path as well. Item power needs a big crunch alongside game play changes to allow for that possibility though.

hopefully the devs play some grim dawn in the meantime and realize what went wrong and see how a good action rpg game looks like, instead of trying to copy diablo 2 in 2025

Yeah, currently you're being punished for playing certain builds, because while they're working in general, they're relatively slow and things like breach, delirium or ritual are simply not tuned to that style...

" I actually somewhat agree with your perspective, but it puts GGG in a really difficult position: It would push PoE2 even further away from being an ARPG, which is dangerous territory given one crucial factor: player expectations. |

i dont thinkt he gameplay is that far off the mark tbh. some endgame builds need nerfed obviously, some individual mobs do too much damage, but really the big overall picture imo i just think mobs are a bit too fast?
its very poe1 swarm you in a second but they fail cause you blow up the screen in half a second. except we shouldnt be blowning up the whole screen in poe2 so its just getting swarmed. the idea that you can control combat through positioning etc is completely lost when so many mobs are so fast. it feels like the mobs are trying to reach ranged chars before they get blown off the screen but really its more close combat characters that suffer as they get swarmed and cannot control their positioning, the combat comes to them and surrounds them, they dont get to dictate how they approach the fight. we even saw it in the trailers, the path of backpedalling memes, everyones a ranged character constantly running backwards because the mobs are so fast and agro thatyou have to spend the enitre fight running directly away from them or you will just be engulfed.
