Seems like I'll have to change the genre :(

Titan Quest 2 is coming, not sure when. Meanwhile the first one is still good but it creaks.

Grim Dawn is fun and MODDABLE. Last Epoch has a new season coming out (not as soon as planned, thanks to GGG). It looks like some great new content and some fixes for irritating things.

If PoE2 fails, and they continue to abandon PoE1, something else will fill the void.
Censored.
Except for one guy nobody else mentioned Titan Quest.
Quite mindblowing as this game has been around for so long and the EA for Titan Quest 2 should be coming anytime now.
It's also moddable and it has A TON of content.
It's one of my favorite games of all time, I'd say it's on par with Grim Dawn.

I played a lot of TQ and I had so much fun in the past.
Though I think it didn´t age well.
i find myself fucked. lol

poe1 was what i thought what i wanted for the longest time. but the reality is the game i want doesnt exist.

the closest to my "perfect" arpg is actually poe2. the main features that i want is:

Gameplay based around POE2 maces. slow and deliberate.
- POE2 already has this but has an identity crisis. do they allow zoom or not. both cannot exist simultaneously. unless zoom being very difficult to achieve.
- I have doubts GGG will fully commit.

Superb graphics/story
- POE2 currently is king. i like the 3 acts that we have. also the graphics. fuck. no other d-like can compete, except of course d4.

Generous Loot drops
- LE/GD has good loot drops and doesnt seem to be too centered around trade. i absolutely cant get back into POE1/2 or even d2 anymore. d2 loot drops are pretty basic but were perfect for that era. we didnt have anything better to do. no other games to play. we WANTED the grind. now? i m older, i have other things to do etc. i prefer games respecting my time.
- Similarly fuck trade. lootdrops are intentionally bad so that trade becomes desirable. i m selfish, i prefer if i can play the game single player all the way, but the way many modern games are, the level of FOMO is ridiculous. its very unlikely you can get a triple watchers eye that you want alone. but with trade you can buy more keys to try or outright buy the one you want. trading is always a superior option but changes the way players play. i dont try to farm for gear in POE1/2. in those games i m farming to make divines.

Straightforward and actual crafting
- i actually learned how to craft in poe. but all that did was make me hate poe's crafting. its unnecessarily convoluted. LE's crafting system is braindead simple. slap what you want. or try changing some mods. if you're lucky you get what you want. if not you're "almost there" but have to try again with a new item.
- i have to also bring up crafting materials. LE being generous with it drops makes me craft a huge lot while doing the campaign. POE on the other hand, crafting is more or less inaccessible to most of the player base. if i m being real. crafting doesnt exist to most of poe playerbase.

Classlessness
- diablo 1 is "virtually classless". no item in the game is class locked. you want to be a mage having heavy armor? get str! its possible! d2 diverged from that. i really enjoyed dungeon siege1 for its classlessness too.
- poe started out virtually classless too. but ever since they introduced ascendancies, thats out of the window. you can be cross class but you lose out a huge lot if you do.
- poe 2's skill system heavily discourages cross classes as the stat requirements are freaking high. also i really dont like the fact that many skills are now locked to weapon types. unlike poe1 where 1 skill gem can be used by a variety of weapons.
- the closest to classlessness now is grimdawn/tli/undecember.

Finite end challenge that feels purely optional
- all games currently have a pinnacle/aspirational content that simply feels compulsory. bonuses or powerful loot unobtainable elsewhere. when chris introduced it, the intention was to give the top players something to challenge themselves. but the problem is, whenever there is a good or exclusive reward at the end, it stops being optional. in the end many players simply just follow a build guide rather than experiment. at worst, players rely on others to carry them just to clear the boss if theres any "clear reward".
- the nearest to this is GD where the celestial bosses are unfair as fuck but, the exclusive gear they drop are not necessarily BIS. there are many other items that can fiercely compete for the gear slot. so essentially it feels really optional. i've played GD off and on for ages. my builds cant kill these bosses but i m not salty at all. its just there for me to attempt and if i fail, i really feel fine with it as i dont really need their drops to begin with.

MF on gear
- i have a strong opinion, where i prefer players wanting to make themselves as strong as possible rather than having them spare item slots for MF since theyre already strong to begin with. i find that it is a failure on the game devs side that the player is so strong that they can afford to make themselves weaker.
- LE solves this quite well. theres no MF on gear. they have a corruption system similar to D3. corruptions is simply like poe's map tier system. but unlike poe, theres no limit. it really embodies the concept of players wanting to be as strong as possible to challenge the toughest content. and in return they get better/more rewards. MF on gear is just a silly mechanic that was used in D2 and older games because the concept of "endgame" grinding content never really existed back in the day. anyone remember how it used to be in POE open beta? players were heavily encouraged to hot box and have an MF dominus culler. thats dumb as fuck but it works. almost a decade later, we have MF cullers for touched AN mobs. and after all that, GGG and many of the "older players" still insist on MF on gear being good. fuck that.
- players should always WANT to be as strong as possible to challenge the toughest challenges to get the best rewards.

build diversity AND balance
- its impossible to have a fully balanced game. but with that being an impossible goal the next best thing is to make it possible for decent/intelligent builds to perform in the end game. perhaps they are slower/take more damage/deal less damage, but they're viable.
- in poe this is not the case. if you dont do at least a million uber dps, you will be in for a bad time. GD does this sufficiently well due to nothing being too out of grasp for regular players with some exclusive gear dropping somewhere equivalent to t10 poe maps? LE is almost there where most of the game is centered around 300 corruption, but the existence of Uber Abbaroth and his exclusive BIS gear is an addition that i do not appreciate.
- as Josh Strife Hayes/Asmon would say, (paraphrasing) the more punishing a game is, the more players will put effort into avoiding that punishment. if cant clear something using my build and that something has something very desirable, i will simply just end up getting a carry or following a build. on these very forums a great argument is "POE killed diversity" vs "POE has tons of diversity". both have truth in their words. POE did in fact kill a huge ton of diversity, but the fact is theres still a ton of things that are still viable. so both statements are true.

Permanence being respected
- i do understand that for a game that constantly gets new content, items will be rebalanced etc. thus we cant expect items to remain eternal. but that said, care must be taken to protect a player's hard work and effort and not to recklessly throw them away/wreck their items/investments. the worst offenders are actually GGG and blizzard. i have no confidence that GGG will protect my gear. i dont need to elaborate. while blizzard, they nerfed everything before d4 season 1, but gave players seasonal powers in return. if you play in a season, you are powerful because of the seasonal powers. but if you're on eternal, bwah bwah.

Seasonal content being accessible without need for resets
- simply put, i want to continue using my gear/characters/progress and enjoy seasonal content. LE and POE2 are currently doing this where you can use your "permanent" league stuff but enjoy the new seasonal content. unfortunately its likely that theyre going to revert to poe1's regular "reset everything if you want to play seasonal content" system.
- i've already done this for 10 years in poe1. i used to worship gamedevs and always believe in their vision and that they have my best interest. the reality is they dont. they have THEIR best interests. standard doesnt make them as much money. so fuck standard. a lot of people have this idea that if players were given the option to play a new league using their level 100 character with godlike items, they would be done in a few days or even hours. i find it weird that players can say this but fail to identify the real problem. the reality is if the league is FUN and/or REWARDING, even standard players would be busy playing the league for long periods of time.

No P2W and minimal/zero FOMO
- no p2w should be self explanatory.
- minimal/zero FOMO. dailies and timed bonuses are also FOMO mechanics. i found myself super addicted to settlers. but the moment i pried myself free i never looked back.

No TIMER based events
- this actually falls somewhere similar to what i mentioned about balance and optional content. timer based events happen and if you fail you feel bad. if you feel bad you will try avoiding that feeling and one way would be to use a better build. less experimentation. creativity is curbed. also its the direct anti thesis for deliberate playstyle. also why i feel GGG will not be able to "fix" poe2 in a way i want it to. the fact breach exists. the fact delirium exists. they're timer based. GGG wants slow and deliberate yet wants timer based mechanics? fuck, you dont know what you want. heck the latest season with their wisp ALSO is a timer based mechanic.

the closest game to what i m looking for right now is LE.

i would prefer if it was poe2 but nah. i already wasted 10 years of my life putting my eggs into that basket.

i was on a lot of hopium. poe2 would solve everything. when it didnt. it couldnt even solve itself.

anyone is free to disagree with me. i've already accepted that most diablolikes are NOT what i want. its a sad realization. all my time effort and passion. the best i can do is enjoy whatever as much as i can. if i dont, then i simply dont play. i havent played poe in a while.
