It is in a MUCH better state than poe1 was a decade ago ffs.
Heh, of course it is, anything else would be the most embarrassing thing in the history of things, as PoE 2 is made by a multi million dollar company with 100+ employees, while PoE 1 a decade ago was made by a handful of nerds.
But PoE 2 is currently miles behind the current iteration of PoE 1. I was "done" within a two weeks; done everything there is to do, with no interesting classes/builds I want to try, as 'most' builds build the same - and absolutely no interesting takes on defenses. So for people wanting to really sink in some hours, PoE 2 just ain't it - yet (unless you're a campaign Andy), which makes the total lack of respect for PoE 1 and its fanbase really disappointing.
It would be VERY interesting to see the PoE 2 numbers if a new PoE 1 league launched today.
Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

PoE II might not be the finished product but it makes PoE look so antiquated, a convoluted, unbalanced mess with a terribly limited game engine.
The future for GGG is PoE II. Join us on an exciting journey or stay stuck in the past with a moribund game.
Let me tell you a story.
I never liked PoE1. I spent about 160 hrs in the past trying to get a good feeling of the game but it never clicked with me.
I was skeptical about PoE2 but I bought EA key nonetheless. Campaign was a fun experience, endgame felt like a chore. And then my build got destroyed (I played CoF comet icewall sorc). I leveled a minion witch, it was still fun in the campaign, I died once a single time before reaching maps. I made a couple more characters (merc, warrior) to try other builds. The game became too easy but at the same time too tedious. Warrior was really bad since I tried to play truemelee. Plus, endgame is a mess that can't really be fixed without going back to the drawing board.
I still had ARPG itch to scratch so I decided to give PoE1 another go. And oh my god, the game is soooo good despite having dated graphics. I tried getting to 90 HC and did it on the first try. I was able to make an actual tanky character that didn't get oneshot by random bullshit. It felt great. Then I went to try RF in softcore. And it also felt good. Then I tried Poison Concoction. And that also felt better than anything that I tried in PoE2.
So, another 160 hrs later I decided that I want to start diving into proper PoE1 endgame (because what I did at most was 2 voidstones and clearing T16s) in the next league only to find out that 3.26 might never come. Am I disappointed? MASSIVELY. Will I play PoE2? Mostly likely not unless they rethink the whole endgame and atlas.
Will I give GGG any more money? Hell no.

GGG was never a very professional company, but this POE 2 director guy is way too incompetent, and it's sad he has so much say in there. He says in the video he didn't know making POE 1 team stop working on POE 1 would lead to this situation. The guy is a joke, he should be fired. 6 months of radio silence about POE 1, and the guy who at Exilecon said he had no idea about POE 1's current state shows up and says POE 1 is dead.
I miss Chris. Aside from being incompetent, this POE 2 dude has the charisma of a brick wall.

It's so sad to see how extreme people here react.
Thanks to Jonathan for putting up a clear line of communication.
I think the problem is some PoE1 players invested so much time in this game, thwt they can't differentiate anymore if they're abandoned by their actual parents or GGG as its stand-in.

Well said. People get very attached to their free to play game they've given money to. Some might say too attached, like junkies.

It's gonna be hilarious when the pivot happens and poe 2 is completely abandoned and GGG tries to shore up poe 1 players as the sinking ship fades into the distance.

Alright, I tried to be patient. I really did. When PoE2 was first announced, I was actually excited. A sequel, but not really a sequel, just a massive update to the game I’ve sunk over a decade of my life into? Sounds great. But here we are, years later, and I’m just done with this entire situation.
GGG has completely abandoned PoE1 players. People who have spent thousands of hours, thousands of dollars, building up their accounts, their MTX, their experience in a game that was supposed to be evolving, not dying. And what do we get? Nothing. No meaningful leagues, no cool little side events to keep us engaged, just a barren wasteland of stagnation because “PoE2 is coming soon.”
And let’s be real, this isn’t even a new issue. If you’ve been playing PoE1 for a while, you know this has been happening for years. Every time the game started feeling rough around the edges, we got the same excuse:
“Yeah, we had to divert some resources to PoE2, but we’ll get back to improving PoE1 soon!”
Again and again, PoE1 players were asked to be patient, to wait just a little longer, because PoE2 needed resources “for now.” But now that we’re here? It turns out “for now” actually meant forever. PoE1 has been on life support for years, and we just didn’t want to admit it.
And the worst part? The people hyping PoE2 the hardest aren’t even the real PoE player base. It’s mostly D4 refugees—the same crowd that played Diablo IV for one season, got bored, and bounced. The same people who hated seasonal content in D4, but now act like they’ll be in PoE2 for the long haul. Spoiler: They won’t. These players aren’t the type to stick around for multiple leagues. They’ll come, play one or two seasons, and then move on to whatever shiny new ARPG is next. And when that happens? What’s left? A gutted PoE1 and a PoE2 that was built for tourists, not the dedicated community that kept GGG alive all these years.
Like, at least throw us something. A fun little Mayhem event? A tiny balance pass? Anything to show that PoE1 isn’t actually dead before PoE2 even releases? But nope. They just expect us to sit here and wait while they pull the rug out from under us.
I didn’t hate PoE2 before. I really didn’t. But after years of excuses, after watching a game I love get slowly suffocated, I can’t help but resent it now. PoE1 players were loyal. We were invested. And now we’re just discarded in favor of a new player base that won’t even stick around.
SO WELL SAID i total agree it is disgusting SHAME SHAME SHAME GGG. GO LAST EPOCH it our last HOPE

100% agree with this, needed to be said and hope they listen!

It's exactly what I hoped wouldn't happen. PoE 1 is way too good in comparison to PoE 2 and GGG doesn't want any of the new players to know it because it will hurt PoE 2. They could release a filler league but they don't want anyone playing PoE 1 so they won't.
PoE 2 is 2 years away from being a good game, if it gets there. Nothing is in a good place (and I'm glad big streamers have finally said so so that everyone doesn't have to keep pretending it's good.) This delay will do nothing except potentially serve as a death sentence for PoE 1.
