I don't feel dodge roll belongs in this type of genre.
I generally like Dodge Roll. This is basically another skill with 0 cooldown and has some other things going on for it. Like 100% evasion chance in the first couple of frames or that it is tied to a separate button, not usual skill slots.
What I think, though, is that the game should have more mobility skills and more options. What about adding a meaningful blink? Or about making a jump (leap) a mobility skill? Add a "sprint" option that gives a significant movement speed bonus for a short period of time. Maybe even more options. What I also think is that this kind of "dodge" skills should be modifiable. Like, let me cast a slam on landing if I leap, making it Leap Slam. Or let me cast Frost Nova on blink, making it Frost Blink. If I use sprint AND a shield I'll get a Shield Charge. If I use Sprint and some "bow" option, my character should run and fire a bunch of rapid shots with a bow. Or bow + jump = backwards jump with shooting an arrow (not nessessery the frost one). Staff + sprint = some sort of windmill skill and so on and so forth. I generally think that adding a dodge roll was a really good idea, but we need more options to choose from and customize to our's build-specific purposes. This game's dodge roll feels terrible compared with other games' like D4/Last Epoch/Lost Ark etc... They focus too much in these needless immersion things.

" With mobility skills like "Flame Dash/Frostblink/Leap Slam" etc. you have a modifiable SKILL. So you can change it to reach the "speed" GGG doesn't want anymore. The distance you can overcome and how fast you can be does not align with the gameplay they are aiming for thus they implemented the dodge roll. Besides exceptions, it is what it is. " Imho this is an escalation problem. Look, I am only a mere mortal who still grinds levels and masochist enough to play Thorn Warbringer... But not sure how long will my enthusiasm last. Whenever I try to do some research how to push my character further every solution to the endgame is "literally million dps, explode the screen, oneshot everything before you are oneshotted by anything" and have brutal movement speed, because MS is technically evasion: attacks wont connect if you're not there. Lets do this reverse: as thorn character I must stand still to kill annoying ranged enemies. So in reverse I see that endgame builds are aoe oneshots and you just run away from any projectile: resulting in a not too fun endgame direction... I know melee in general have issues in this stage of the game, but what I try to say that dodgeroll is a "defensive mechanics" yet every endgame build to counter whatever enemy is to "you don't need any defense, or any mechanic if the enemy is dead before it can do anything" And its hard to dodgeroll if the game is about either a 1v1 boss fight where the 90% of the screen is a oneshot aoe, or 90% of the screen are enemies with attacks + you overlap the screen with your 90% of screen cover attack... |

Honestly - this is the best thing they ever added to ARPGs.
I cant even go back and play POE1 anymore - the controls are way more precise. The combat is more engaging and fun. The only problem is that the endgame is too similar to POE1 so most of the new things is lost. I think the combat in this game is the most fun in campaign. |

Surprise surprise, there IS a Blink skill in this game. If you look hard enough.

I think that each class type should have a movement skill that replaces dodge roll like sorceress with blink. This way movement, which is already very important to scale with flat move speed, becomes an even more interesting and flavorful way of scaling your character into the late game.

Dodge roll would be better if it was an alternative means to avoid damage, but it is practically mandatory on every boss fight and even some rare mobs and they've balanced those encounters around this mechanic. Either use it or one-shot the bosses. Poor game design IMO.
