Completely agree. Character ID and Account name is already a unique identifier. Multiple people/character with the same name should not be a problem for GGG. It's an archaic system that has no reason to exist, and people have been complaining about it for far too long. I poured BBQ sauce into my eyes, and I saw it. You want to know what I saw? Do you really, truly want to know...? I saw the true face of God, Exile. And it was vaaled... IT WAS VAALED.

After about a month, when I went to make a new character I got tired of trying to find names that weren't already taken, so I just mashed some random letters. The first two randomly generated button mash names were already taken.

There are problems to this.
Let's say your name is "CoCenjoyer" and someone else thinks the name is funny and takes it too. Now two "CoCenjoyer" exist. If the other player now does scummy stuff like scamming ppl in trades or something similar - most ppl wouldn't know who it actually was. Was the scammer you or someone else with the EXACT same name? Ppl could make posts about you, ruining your credibility/reputation, that could lead to harassment when you did nothing wrong yadda yadda. You probably get the problem, but there is even something else... If two players have the same name - how would the game know who you want to interact with? You find a great item on trade sold by "NiceItemSeller" and want to whisper him, but 10 different "NiceItemSeller" exist... so you are unable to contact the right one. Sure, this could be solved with an "identification number" like "NiceItemSeller#0001" and "NiceItemSeller#0002", but not everyone wants a number next to their name. Furthermore, it would be impossible to track a scammer down. If you got scammed by someone and want to report them here, on Reddit, TFT or whatever to warn others - you could not find out their account anymore. Example, if "ScammerKiddie420" scammed you in a trade, you can type "/whois ScammerKiddie420" and get his character information like class/level AND his account name. But when multiple characters with the same name exist - you never find out who it was. |

" you are JakkerONAIR#4902 the 4902 makes you easy to figure out, its not a problem, there can be a thousdand of jakkerONAIR but there will only be one JakkerONAIR#4902 if you get scammed despite the fact that there are certain things you need to do before accepting a trade, than you are scamming yourself and you did it to your self who i want to interact with will be JakkerONAIR#4902 and not JakkerONAIR#2404, the game already has the coding for it the Only thing GGG has to do, is Show the #4902 at the end of the name, that is your unique ID, only you have that if you write to someone that simple number could be shown, if i write the number id will be shown, the ID is there its just hidden Last edited by Battle_Baboon#3734 on Mar 3, 2025, 5:35:08 PM

" Like I said, the "indification number" (#0000-#9999) would help, but not everyone want this next to their name and don't forget, many ppl don't want others to use THEIR name. Getting scammed was only one example. There are many ways to harm someone's appearance by association. |

" they dont have to see their Own name with the #0001 and if there isnt room for multiple of the same name, we will get names like XoxoNumblockblock sajdjsadja Jimmyjamjumbab names that you dont really want but a forced to take Harming someones name can be done in many ways i could name my self JakkerONAAIR JakkerrONAIR, JakkrONAIR and that may be mistaken for you, if #id does not work, neither does character or account name Last edited by Battle_Baboon#3734 on Mar 3, 2025, 6:07:28 PM

" Sure, there is probably a way to program it this way, but at the end it's "people who want a name that is already taken" versus "people who don't want others to have the same name" And we don't know who is the majority in this case and thus don't know if GGG would be willing to change it. |

" But a similar name is not the same. That's the point. Someone posting a screenshot where "JakkerrONAIR" says crazy stuff that would cause an immediate ban or even cause harm outside of PoE... like dropping the N-word, can be easily dismissed because it's not "JakkerONAIR" and my account has no character with the name "JakkerrONAIR". |

" my guess is the people who cant get the names they want, because one has already taken it that also leaves something that happend in d2 back in the olden days selling character names for real money, or selling accounts with character names they want |
