From drops. Only drops. It's the only source of every currency item in the game (more or less).
I think people that directly and/or indirectly use the RMT-card every time they see something they can't explain based on their play time, play speed, knowledge and skill have no cluse about the degeneracy of the hardcore players; how much they play, how fast they play and how efficient they play.
We all know there is RMT out there, but currency still need to drop and making several hundred chaos on day one isn't anything special; 4 hours to maps, 12 hours mapping (some play even more on day one), 20 maps per hour... I mean, making several hundred chaos in several hundred maps? Even I can do that, even though I'm "not there" on day one.
So on day 1 they are doing 3 minute maps for 12 hours straight?
And this is fairly commonplace to create a market where quite a number of players have hundreds of chaos to burn?
While I could see Empy doing this no problem, seeing this across lots of players strains credibility more than some good old fashion RMT.
You ever watch Mathil or Ziggy or Ziz on release day?
Can we posit that one or all are better than you are or I am, to get past your somewhat "gitgud" argument?
So end of day 1, they will have like a dozen chaos or something. Sure, I might suck at the game, but they suck too?

Played PoE1 for the first time in a long time. Greeted by absolutely garbage drop rates. I can find a single improvement over campaign level gear after running hundreds of maps. Nor can i purchase jack all as leveling to 85 has yielded less than 40 chaos drops and nothing else. Please increase the fucking drop rates for none uber juiced content so the average player can at least get BASIC gear. Stupid as shit 2/10.
POE has never EVER at any point ever been a game where you can upgrade your progression exponentially being self found. The progression is there if you refuse to trade but its a self imposed nerf and you will farm 100x more for the same things traders can get in seconds.
Dont want to interact with the systems the game uses aka the trade site then dont complain abut the progression.
These posts need to stop

trade = choosing to play easy mode.
And if you play easy mode, you don't really have any idea what the state of the game is.
It's awful.
PoE 2 is a sweaty mess.
PoE is a unbalanced ArchNemisis pig of a one shot.

PoE is dead to me. The game is superbloated with crap content and mechanics.
It used to be a game that was more complex than Diablo and you could mess around with different builds in your free time and have some fun. Now it's just a literal joke. Can't even clear a campaign area without running into 5 different NPC sidequesters, some random 'ore mining' crap, some sheet of ice (?) that you click on and some monsters start appearing.
They even messed up strongboxes now. You used to get excited when you saw one, maybe even spend some currency to spice it up and get lucky. Now, there's 5-15 per area sometimes and it's just awful.
The same losers will come in saying 'just ignore the extra content'. It's like I'm trying to watch a TV show or read a book that has pop-up advertisements taking up 50% of the screen.
The game no longer has any atmosphere at all. Might as well be called 'Path of Low-T Dopamine', because the only people enjoying this crap are low-T dudes who need zoom zoom dopamine. Which of course explains the physical appearance of all the youtubers and twitch personalities who play. They are all effeminate, balding, weak, etc. I'm sure there's one on steroids or TRT some dork will link up here 'broski it's a skill issue'.
It has nothing to do with the challenge, which btw isn't there. "Did you take all the life and reduction nodes or not?" "Nope". "Take this one-shot then!".
The game is overbloated with 5,000 different currency items, no atmosphere at all, rares dropping 30x more than when I played ~5 years ago, and pop up NPC events in every other screen of a map or campaign area. It is GARBAGE.
I'm literally enjoying D3 more than this crapfest. (I never read replies)
Play Ruthless.

Might also be OP's issue, I'm guessing their lack of drop upgrades in maps -
(which, honestly, is hard to believe, unless campaign loaded them on just the right uniques ??)
- might be because they are getting carried a lot by the crafting bench ?

none of those guys are meta build softcore economy whore blasters tho in fairness. they dont suck but theyre not even trying to get rich early doors, or ever really. ziggy did what he could to get a mirror once iirc.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

none of those guys are meta build softcore economy whore blasters tho in fairness. they dont suck but theyre not even trying to get rich early doors, or ever really. ziggy did what he could to get a mirror once iirc.
The chaos recipe and sanctum in the early hours both flood the market with a significant amount of currency.

I agree, and my argument is more I am not seeing anyone stream who is getting hundreds of chaos day 1, which feels weird given how many streamers there are including ones who do focus on wealth.
The sole exception is Empy, but he is usually using some weird exploit trick to do so, that is usually shut down fast.

I have found 1 t16 map in 92 lvls
I had to trade for all my "map" (connected map drops) idols and still getting zero returns for trying to alch maps above 70% quant.
Really shitty experience.
The atlas tree at least allows you to spec into some kind of decent map return with an 80% chance of higher tier map rolls naturally without this trade//rng shenanigans.
