PoE 2 Crafting Feels Different, But I Kinda Like It 🥂
" Soooo, back to all those comments about how this system is designed to foster gambling addictions... |

Also, it's pretty clear that people get their dopamine hits from different things. Some people derive satisfaction from creating things themselves. Some people derive satisfaction from gambling and feeling lucky. This game sucks for anyone in the former camp.

" Not sure what kind of crafting system you're looking for, but if you want exactly what PoE 1 had, well... it’s still there. Sure, I have my complaints about PoE 2’s crafting, but I’m fine with it because it’s simpler. PoE 1 crafting was a pain. You needed a ton of guides, hours of watching videos, and even then, you had to memorize everything like it was a thesis just to craft one item. That stuff got old fast. I get that some people don't like the RNG or the ‘gambling’ feel of PoE 2’s system, but for me, it’s a relief. It's more straightforward, and I can focus on playing instead of researching crafting guides all day. Whether you played PoE 1 or not, if you couldn’t hit the mods you wanted back then, you’d probably call it ‘gambling’ too PoE 2? "It’s not just PoE 1 with better graphics."

I wouldn't call current system as "PoE 2 crafting", more like "the base of PoE 2 crafting system". GGG said multiple times, that different crafting mechanics will be added later.

" Lol, fair enough. To be honest, I just can't be bothered. I store it for a while, to compare it to other junk I made, and then just vendor it for gold. xD That's fine with me. " Yep. I think they said that they swung too far onto RNG side, and a bit more determinism is needed. The thing is, full determinism is bad, too. That's why Last Epoch isn't really that big of a hit, despite having great quality of life stuff. You need a balance. " Sure. But my main point is, it's not the difference between PoE 1 and PoE 2, just between EA and later stage of development. In LE, it is not full determenistic though. You still have some random affixes from original item and some from crafting, same as in PoE 1, basically. But I like LE approach more. Last edited by Suchka_777#4336 on Feb 25, 2025, 11:19:07 PM

" It's called a knowledge investment. Psychologically, it works similarly to any other type of investment, such as time, money, effort, etc. It helps to ease people into the sunk cost fallacy, which when coupled with the gambling addiction elements (among others), helps cement the overall psychological addiction to their "games". You can rest assured that PoE2 crafting will end up as convoluted and "work-like" as 1. That's part of their game. |

" Maybe, but right now, PoE 2 crafting is way simpler, and I hope it stays that way. If it eventually becomes as complicated as PoE 1, well, I won’t complain, but I’d rather it not go that route. PoE 1 already overwhelms new players with the passive tree, and on top of that, there’s crafting with fossils, essences, bench crafting, metacrafting, and all that. If PoE 2 ends up having too many different crafting methods, it’s just going to be another massive hurdle for new players. And honestly, whether it’s PoE 1 or PoE 2, crafting has always had RNG, you either hit the right mods or you don’t. PoE 2? "It’s not just PoE 1 with better graphics."

This is pure 100% gambling and have no crafting at all .
Atleast in POE 1 the gambling while crafting was 50/50 not a 100% gamble at least you cam decide what you want on the item with essences and other items. Right now the game barely drop any essence or omens. |
