The reason is you either didn't pay attention, made a mistake or didn't have the right gear for the map-mods you're running (yeah, lag, discos, etc. yadayada). Being lvl 100 won't make you magically good and unkillable.
No, the reason is overtuned mobs and map mods, and random oneshots that happen in a fraction of a second which no human can react to fast enough.
Stop trying to misdirect this conversation to lvl100, nobody is talking about that and nobody cares about getting to lvl100 here. All we want is to not lose our earned progress on death. Its my exp and the game has no right to steal it from me. Stop trying to blame the players for bad, archaic game design.
Strange, I'm running t16 maps with no problem. Seems like you fit the pattern I've stated above.
If people didn't care about getting to lvl100, they won't complain about xp loss.
Dying alltogether is also archaic. Why don't you complain about not being invincible? Dying sets you back on a map. More walking.
Lol @ "my exp" and "stealing". There is just so much wrong with that statement.

Nope, just because someone complains about exp loss doesn't automatically mean they want lvl100. That's your assumption. It just feels bad to lose progress from X hours of farming when you die, its that simple. That is the topic of this and many other threads about this problem.
Yes it is my exp and yes the game does steal it away any time I die. That is unacceptable design in a game in the year 2025.

Not losing xp inherently means hitting lvl100 eventually. There is no discussion about that.
If it's so unacceptable, why bother playing this game? Why do all souls-like even exist? You don't decide what's an acceptable mechanic or not. That's for the game designers to decide.

You can get your exp back in soulslike games, you cannot here. You can even get it back in a game as old as Titan Quest.
And yes, anything is up to the community to decide if it is acceptable to be in the game. That's what this feedback forum is for. And me and many others have given their feedback about this clear problem in the game's design, now all we have to do is wait for it to be addressed properly. Which it will be, just like 1-portal per map was.

You don't lose any XP 'till level X. That's not the case in soulslike games.
No, the community can give feedback. It's for the gamedesigners to decide what stays and what not. If the community would decide what this game is it would be a one-button screenclear and bosseraser while you watch Youtube-videos.

+101 Noone likes the XP loss the way Devs serve it... Be creative and bring more innovative ideas. Stop copying from Poe and represent it as a new thing!

Yeah and the game designers will often make changes based on community feedback, which is supposedly the reason for releasing an unfinished game and calling it EA.
Not sure if your response about not losing XP until level x had a legitimate point or if you just don't understand the issue. Losing XP at lower levels isn't a huge deal, it can be recovered in a reasonable amount of time, and if it was recoverable where you died it wouldn't be an issue at all.
No one has an issue spending a few minutes to recover XP. Spending an hour + to get it back is bad design, period. There's no good reason for it.
Seriously, name 1 good reason why XP shouldn't be recoverable near the spot you died.

Just like hitting lvl 90 as a soft cap isn't a huge deal, because those 10 more levels don't really magnifiy your power.
Thanks for reinforcing that.

Bump, and again thank you to everyone doing their part and giving this thread a +1.
We, the majority have spoken about how we want exp loss to change. Either make it optional or straight up delete it. These kinds of mechanics don't belong in Softcore.
