Its softcore, I don't see a reason at all to not get rid of experience loss on death. Hardcore exists and softcore is supposed to be the soft mode. Don't see the point in adding exp loss and making it medium, in the middle core.

I dont care either way but having it removed from sofcore makes more sense to me.

I guess you've meant it the other way round. Get rid of xp-loss on hardcore, because once you're dead, you're dead. No xp to lose anyway.

I mean what I said. I dont play sofcore, but its softcore. Logically it makes no sense having an exp penalty when hc exists for those who want to play a more meaningful game.

I dont understand people who deffend exp loss, it like they are trying to force a midcore mode.

Its called sortcore league for a reason.

Literally makes no difference to me either way but it makes sense.

It makes perfect sense, since you have to put work in to get over the softcap of lvl90. If they put lvl90 as the max level, people wouldn't complain, because they'd have reached the max. They just complain because they have the completionist mindset. Or should you complain that you can get killed by bosses? Or are bosses supposed to be challenging?

Exactly, Softcore is supposed to be the easiest casual mode of the game. People saying it should have exp loss just want some kind of weird mediumcore in the game because they can't bring themselves to actually go play HC.

This. This. This.
EXP loss isn't a real problem. It's literally just in people's heads.

Oh it clearly is a real problem if there are so many threads with tens of thousands of views and comments on them though. It will change eventually, too many people quit because of it.

The idea that it isn't a problem is just in your head. Losing hours of already completed progress is a real tangible effect that can be measured. By definition that isn't simply in someone's head.

It wouldn't be a real problem if it was recoverable where you died. There's no legitimate reason to not do this, or at least one hasn't been presented.

I'm a muppet, newbie, moaning lvl {77/88/92} etc. in POE2.
I don't have a lot of experience.

But... my view is that yes, there should be a small XP loss for dying. Otherwise glass cannon builds will ALWAYS exceed tank builds, and I don't think that should be that case. Other games/sports have elements where strong defence can be just as valuable as strong offense.

tldr; There needs to be something that balances that risk/reward trade-off.

Is it probably too steep at higher levels? Yes, I suspect so. Losing hours of time - when let's face it - it's generally down to some random cluster-damage/oneshot.

Could it be mitigated with higher level maps maybe? Possibly yes. Let players go beyond lvl16 maps and they can gain XP quicker ... (at their risk)

BUT....

Should a bandaid be needed in terms of various Omens? No: that's bad game design. If you want people to lose 10%, then go balls out. If you don't, then don't put it on some stupid loot item to stop it
