POE 3.26 is going to Launch in June and Why POE2 people should care and play it.

I am so relieved that 3.26 is going to launch in June. Literally nearly a year later we get a new league for a game that is STILL the best ARPG in the market, even its successor is much worse. I don't mean its worse because of bugs but because of design decisions. When it comes out I suggest everyone give it a try. To that end I would like to take some time telling POE2 players what to expect, giving them some tips on how to play and dispelling myths.

Q: "Isn't POE1 just all screen clearing one shot blaster builds like I saw on YouTube?"
A: No, not at all. The videos you see are VERY VERY late game after a user has put a ton of time into their character. As you work through the game you will get steadily more powerful. Its only at the very end that it looks like the build videos.

Q: What skill / class should I pick?
A: Honestly just about anything. Unlike POE2 you can get through the campaign and a good part of end game with anything. One day a friend challenged me to beat Maven with chain hook and I did. There are a couple of weak skills not intended as main skills but right now I cant think of them. There will be builds that are stronger, meta builds, but I personally avoid them because they bore me. I like to plan my own path, that's half the fun. But then I also play SSF.

Q: What are the biggest differences in gameplay I should know about?
A: Instead of socketing a gem into your character, you socket it into equipment. You will be looking for equipment that has the right color sockets for the support gems you want and there will be that dopamine burst when it drops. Armor items have higher chance of red sockets, ES Blue and Evasion Green. Hybrid armor mixes this. There is currency to increase the amount of sockets. Chest and 2 handers can have up to 6 sockets, one hand weapons or shields, up to three, and helm, boots and gloves up to four. There are other sockets you will encounter but that is a longer talk.

Also POE1 has movement skills and you should learn how to use them. The best tank is the hit you dont take. Granted that is very hard in POE2 as dodge roll is slower than actually running out but in POE1 there are lots of movement skills with pros and cons to each.

Q: Are the controls the same?
A: Mostly. No WASD (unless they add it in the patch) but the point and click is the same other than sockets. If you play on controller like me then ... yeah ... they completely remapped it. It will take act 1 to get used to it.

Q: What about runes and crafting?
A: POE1 has a rich, diverse, amazing crafting system with literally dozens of ways to alter your equipment. You will get the first at the beginning of act 2. The crafting bench allows you to fix your resists and add more damage to gear. You can generally craft one attachment per item, the rest are rolled and rerolled with currency. Later you will get things like harvest and recombination and other crafting mechanisms. Its going to be a culture shock to not have "reduced attribute requirements" on your wand when you don't need it or "casting speed +5%" on your two handed hammer but you will like it. Since POE2 has basically no crafting system at all, you will have to learn it. People are usually happy to answer questions. Anyone that trolls you I would suggest just mute them.

Q: I see people racing the campaign super fast, is that how everyone plays?
A: God no! Racers have the game memorized, they know what sockets and when, they know to use X instead of Y because they don't have a Red-Red-Green item. They know the monster and bosses. They make the game look super easy because they have played it thousands of hours. Players that are not racers but played it a lot will go a lot faster than a newer player but it isn't a competitive game so don't worry about that. Go at your own pace.

Q: What is the difference in endgame?
A: Wow ... that could be a thread itself. The game walks you through the primary atlas endgame pretty well. You will love that you can configure your atlas to not have X and have lots of Y using atlas skills. Ask lots of questions in global, people wont mind. And listen to others questions and answers. Maven, Exarch and other famous bosses are residents of the atlas. There is also delve which has its own bosses and challenges. I wont spoil it but suffice it to say, the deeper you play the harder it gets ... a LOT harder. Builds that would wipe an uber will die at less than 500 depth. POE has basically 2 endgames. And unlike the infinite atlas of POE2, Delve has objectives, tension, fun, challenge and directional goals. Get deeper, find cool bosses and cool loot.

I hope to see you in there.

No WASD controls means I won't play it. I can't stand point click movement. Or else I would already be playing it instead of PoE2

Play controller in either game. You wont want to go back to keyboard. There are only a couple of skills that are tough with controller (totems, some niche archery skills)

I play on an MMO mouse and all my controls are on it. I prefer it that way. Not a big fan of controller for non third person games. When they add WASD support I'll check it out. It's not that I don't want to try it. I just don't like the control schemes they offer.

LOL I am 54 and I can try new things. ;) Give it a shot. Couldn't hurt.
No change of me ever again playing POE1. In fact I dropped POE1 on the day they streamed POE2 for the first time...

At least in PoE1 Exp loss is outweight for real endgame activies that works.

in poe 1 you get much more experience, it takes less experience to level, and leveling is faster -- and you lose less experience when you die in POE 1...

They really did amplify all the bad things from POE 1 for POE 2 lol
