SSF is an unbearable slog without a crafting bench
Title.
Item progression is near impossible, and your orbs are under constant pressure to craft from white/blue bases. Also, you have to heavily tone down your filter just to look for bases on repeat. There needs to be a crafting bench and actual crafting for this game to succeed, in my humble opinion. Last bumped on May 28, 2025, 4:55:55 PM

Yeah, it feels like you are hitting a brick wall in SSF in terms of item progression. I've probably blown like 500 exalts, 100 chaos, godonlyknows how many transmutes, augments, regals, essences and expedition mats on trying to "craft" something.
A few good things here and there, but once you try to fracture them they are most likely bricked, and if it's not the fracturing then the recombination attempt destroys it. Because God forbid you have a reliable way to get 2 mods or even 3 (shock!) onto an item. Needless to say the few attempts of trying to whittle away shitty mods on an otherwise good item with 4-5 great mods led to absolutely nothing. The frustrating part about it is not even the randomness, what irks me is that you have to farm through dozens of hours for all the mats just to try your hand at a slot machine that will produce 100 failures for one small success. I can confidently say that I am hard stuck at the boundary of being able to do t0 pinnacle content. Haven't had an item upgrade in probably a hundred hours. They should just separate SSF and Trade completely and give us a game version that doesn't rely on farming currency like it's a friggin job so you can buy your items on trade. It's a looter arp. Let us loot. Let us craft. Let us have fun progressing out items. |

I'm nowhere even close to your time spent, but after a few weeks I've made it to T10 maps and I'm ready to give up.
I even got super lucky by chancing an Astramentis, but even that has taken me only so far. Also, I'm playing Smith of Kitava, so I basically only "need" high life and fire res to succeed. Even then, it's so impossible to find an upgrade, even for gear I've been wearing for 10+ levels. It's just not fun without a reliable gear progression. The lack of crafting and a crafting bench are really exacerbated by the rules of SSF. |

I still don't understand why they thought removing the crafting bench was a good idea.

" WHAT ?! Reliably getting TWO desired mod on a single item without spending at least 3 divines for it ?! WHAT ARE YOU, CRAZY ? Seriously I do agree, SSF players should probably get a permanent 200% bonus to both rarity and quantity, on monsters. I'm amazed people would even bother playing poe 2 in ssf mode at the moment. " Yeah, it's painful, but I refuse to play trade in it's current state. Currency farming and trade is the centerpiece of late game PoE2, instead of it being an augmentation to the game. And hence, everything has to be balanced around trade, literally sucking the fun out of the game. It's a tail wagging the dog situation. |

I literally just wanted to give SSF a try to see if it was going to be as bad as I feared. A good build and and leveling skill can make the acts very doable.
However, gearing for endgame feels impossible without planning for months on one character (in the game's current state, at least). |

" First damn chance orb too. It was like the only real dopamine hit of the handful of days I've spent on the run. |

I have no idea how people are playing SSF, that must be pure torture in this game. 99% of the time I don't find any useful items for my class or build so to play SSF is a slog. Without trade, this game is unplayable.
GGG needs to buff loot drops for anyone playing SSF. Maybe 200-300%. Then, make it so they cant move into trade. I think 99% of the players would be happy with this trade-off. |
