xp penalty

Is far to severe, to strip away 4 or 5 hours of effort with 1 death is just crap. at level 92 I am tired of being sent to ZERO xp in the level because I have died? In fact it is so frustrating I am done with this league. And I will be totally honest, if this punitive mechanic stays as is, I will not play after next league.

Thanks

Dude preachin to choir feel your pain it will never change. Run with the Omen that mitigates XP loss to 2.5% is my best suggestion.

Been there so many times even quit playing weeks at a time...should do that more often actually.
The best experiences POE (both 1 and 2) have to offer are when you step into something your character is just narrowly underqualified for, and have to really work at it. Those are the situations where combat feels meaningful, where the systems work the best, and where for most players the good fun is had. The EXP penalty in both games, highly incentivizes optimizing that fun out of the game, by sticking to content that is mostly trivial for the power level of your build, and not engaging with content unless you are sure you can survive it handily.

It encourages players not to engage with the best systems and experiences the game has to offer by over penalizing failure. It is anti-experimentation, anti-challenge, and anti-fun, and it should be dropped from both games. No one's experience was made better by the XP penalty on death.
Deaths/mistakes/simply bad luck or rng should 100% have consequences in an ARPG.

Die less and and use omen of amelioration.

It's not that hard to get xp until lvl 95, which most casual players should treat as max lvl.

Being stuck at level 92 is 100% a skill issue.

Well said.

By far my biggest disincentive to returning to POE2 is knowing this will kick in at some point and stop me from being able to play engaging content unless I forego progression.

In season .1 I gave up juicing anything between 94 > 95. The deaths just ruined the content basically.

So the progression for me was white maps, no extra content, no bosses, avoid all challenge, play lower tiers.

It was not fun.

In this season I quit at 87 F it.

The only people that really clamour for XP loss to exist are the ones that want to feel some accomplishment in their lives and instead of getting it there, they obtain it in a game. Life is hard already, playing an ARPG should not boost your ePeen. These are the people that PUNCH DOWN at the lesser player than they are. It is a feel good event to know others struggle with what they found easy.

This is how it should be in any arpg, but unfortunately poe1 and poe2 learning curves are all over the place. No amount of patching fixes it, you are either steamrolling effortlessly, or get killed immediately and repeatedly.

You'd think after so many years in binary "full hp or dead" experience GGG can finally adopt one of the modern ways of incentivizing players to play deathless (survival bonus instead of rollback, natural penalty recovery without omens, penalty limit, penalty cooldown). But no, GGG pretends all exp penalty topics don't exist. And occasionally repeat "we need exp loss in the race events" in interviews. Race events is like 1% of total time people spent in poe, good excuse.

+1
if its taking you 4-5hrs to get 10% exp then you are doing something very wrong.

At 92 i stil get around 5% per map
No. EXP penalty is exactly how it should be.

Before level 90, the penalty is barely noticeable. Inversely, levels beyond 90 are entirely optional and meant to be hard, otherwise the ladder would be meaningless.

Solution for you: Either a) stop caring about EXP at level 90 or b) use Omen of Amelioration and actually focus on not dying, if you want to climb the ladder.
