Poe 2 identity, is it just poe 1 with better graphics?

Poe 2 core gameplay are the same as poe 1, clear map as fast as possible and fill your screen with so much shit you cant see anything.

I feel like poe 2 are having identity crisis.

Here are somethings
1. They added dodge, sprint, parry and raise shield. But apart from dodge.. none of these actually do anything. Its so bad to the point that NONOBODY ARE CRAFTING BUCKLERS. parry system is dead in the water.

2. They waste time and effort on making cool bosses with cool moves and all, and then comes min max giga chad who finishes that boss in 1 second. The boss didnt even get the chance to blink. Sadge.

If poe2 is following poe1's footsteps, ggg might as well just remaster poe 1 and add the sprint dodge system. That would cost less resource and time.

Instead, they should make skillgems that interact with dodge roll or sprint. E.g: leap slam animation are faster if used while sprinting and causes wider area of effect.

Stampede deals more damage when used while sprinting and knocks enemies aside.

same goes for dodges, with its own interaction.

Parry gameplay is dogshit bcs in late game hundreds of things run at you and you can only parry one at a time. Thats just bull, and most parry gameplay only give frenzy charge or some minor extra effects.

I believe poe2 best direction is to make combat more meaningful and less button mashing.

1. Either less mobs or mobs do shit slower.
2. Rarity should increases per monster killed until a high level item drop, then the rarity resets again and stacks up. This to counter the les number of mobs.

Why this approach? It incentivizes players to actually doing team play.

But ultimately, this is all just my personal opinion.

Great post.

I'm wondering the same thing, but for different reasons. The endgame in PoE2 felt very different, and I liked it, because:

1) Towers were around.
2) Most maps didn't have bosses.
3) When you died in a map, the map ended.

These were very different things to PoE1, and it made me think differently, too. I love PoE1, but I loved that old PoE2 design, too.

But now, with bosses in every map, and towers not being a mechanical thing anymore, it feel very similar to PoE1. It actually feels worse than PoE1, because in PoE1, You could avoid bosses without affecting your atlas, and you can run any map you want (and have, in PoE1), not just what is available on your atlas map network (in PoE2).

Therefore, what is the point of the atlas map, anymore? And if there isn't any, then what is the difference between PoE2 and PoE1, anymore?

However... if we want changes in a system, maybe it's helpful to recognize and compare with other games that used the system we want. In your example, I think the best ARPG for meaningful combat is No Rest For The Wicked. That game made a lot of design sacrifices to make its combat system work, but it's definitely fun in it's own way. For my example, I think Last Epoch did a great job of giving us different map completion goals. I liked the original idea of PoE2, where we finished maps by beating all the rares, but Last Epoch had even more end goals (defend an area, destroy towers, etc). But, do I want PoE2 to become more like Last Epoch?
So far it is POE1 with improved graphics. Let's assume "meaningful" combat for a second. I mona give you freeze + snipe but there is a problem on this. Every boss in this game is too fast plus last addition of "ailment" on bosses nearly making them to become freeze takes days unless you spec into it. Let's say you spec into ez freeze than your dps is down.

Too many ground & explosion effects you need to constant move or you die. Mechanics until now same but a little mixed.

Delirium merged with Blight mechanic.

Abyss is literally merged with "Betrayal".

If we see "Delve" on 0.4 i won't be suprised but i ll make my mind this is continue of POE1 with better graphics.

Your answer is YES until now it is POE1. New tablet system also "Scarabs".
True, I have the same feeling since 0.3
The game needs more new ideas instead of copying stuff from poe1.
“The bird of Hermes is my name, eating my wings to make me tame.”
If they don't seek to move the game towards what they initially planned, aka engaging combat, there's literally no point to PoE2. There's a shitload of work to do towards that if they do decide that... and a lot of things they need to revert as well from whatever "progress" they think they've made since EA launch.

Hard disagree. Graphics are superior in POE2.

POE2 gem system is also better, and there are more QOL, like WASD.

POE1 is a dead game and should be abandoned and the main focus should be 100% on POE2.

POE1 should only get league reset and no new content.

Instead poe2 was abandoned and Devs focus in poe1 further development.

Again, takes like this make me wish for PoE 2 to fail on it's own merits
Also disagree. Gem system is a huge upgrade. And as a result the gear system is a huge upgrade. Also dodge and sprint feel so great I cant stand it. Sometimes I just have to lay facedown on the floow for 4 seconds and think about it. Seriously though This game rocks. I couldn't get my friends to play PoE1 they're all finding PoE2 great.
