Chaos orbs - how do they work exactly?
I'm wondering do they randomize the rare item based on the stats values it rolled when it became a rare?
For exmaple: When you use an alch orb and make an item a rare it rolls into certain categories (not 100% accurate just an assessment for simplicity) using IAS as an example Category 1 (lowest roll) 3%-8% IAS Category 2 (lower median) 9%-14% IAS Category 3 (upper median) 15%-20% IAS Category 4 (highest median) 21%-28% IAS If I use an alchemy and it rolls the stats of an item say in category 2, and if I use a chaos orb will it re-roll the item based on that same sort of category? Or will it re-roll and possibly roll ANY category? I'm just trying to establish if it's better to use Chaos orbs or instead buy scourings and use alchemy orbs over and over on an item. |

if scouring and alchemy is cheaper then go that route. if not use chaos.
both results will be the same. it completely rerolls the item ... EXCEPT the sockets/links/base item. all the modifiers will be different based on the Ilvl on the item. IGN- Shaeyaena

The first thing decided is 4, 5 or 6 mods with their own chances. Im not sure on this but i think 6 mods is 1/10 so its probably something like 6/10 is 4 mods and 3/10 is 5 mods.
THEN each different stat and roll are seperate rolls. EG lets say there are only 2 possible stats to make this easier and 4 possible rolls for each +1-10 life +11-20 life +21-30 life 31-40 life +1-10 mana +11-20 mana +21-30 mana +31-40 mana Lets say a chaos orb adds 2 stats. the chance of each is 1/8, then 1/4. So you want 31-40 life and 31-40 mana. Chances are 1/(4*8) = 1/32 Then the rolls are determined in each range evens. So Chance of 40 life, 40 mana is (1/32*1/10)+(1/56*1/10) = 1/640 Now expand this to 500 possible rolls (a guess for a high ilv item), getting 6 top rolls. A good guess would be something like 1/10*1/500*1/480*1/460*1/450*1/440*1/420 = 1/91808640000000000 Getting 6 top rolls - already next to impossible. Then getting all top top rolls.... forget it...... |

They work exactly the same way as finding a rare item "in the wild" with the given socket count/linkage, item level, and base item type. No information about previous affixes is saved.
Beyond that, well, it's a little fuzzy here. I just use them when I'm trying to upgrade my gear and the alchemy was unlucky. I have wandered through insanity;
I have walked the spiral out. Heard its twisted dreamed inanity In a whisper, in a shout. In the babbling cacophony The refrains are all the same: "[permutations of humanity] are unworthy of the name!" |

Thanks for all the input it helps!
I'm trying to craft a better 2H mace as I can't afford the next upgrade I'm trying to upgrade this, spent around 20-25 chaos so far and haven't had much luck. I'm aiming for around the 400 DPS mark I know it isn't a 6L but it's the closest I've got and I like the crafting aspect of the game. It's gambling pure and simple but it's something I enjoy being able to take items I've accumulated over time and possibly turn it into something great Last edited by subjugatorxxx#1659 on Jul 1, 2013, 5:48:38 PM
