I've been playing cleaver characters for a long time. One in default at level 86, one at level 87 on anarchy alot more characters in the 70s~ bracket.
Currently on my main cleaver (at level 87) I'm using these weapons and bringer of rain:

Currently I can do 25k dps on cleave with 5 auras: Wrath & Grace with blood magic. On my mana I run Purity, Hatred & Anger. I only spent 3 skill points into mana ones inside the dualist tree. I'm using 2% mana leech from 1 ring and I never ever run out of mana. The amount of bullshit saying this weapon way too OP is utterly stupid. The amount of dps on it would boost probebly my dps from 25k up to 30~35k. I can just drop some life % nodes to drop my life to the 5k~ and pick up another 4~5k dps and put my own dps already at 30k. I can clear all maps up to level 74 solo with any given map mods in matter of minutes. All this axe would give me is abit more damage, could probebly put 1 or mayby even both auras from blood magic to my mana, even if it's one, I only will benefit about 100~ health. I don't think this item is OP (as in Over Powered, too strong) and it's not. Mana shouldn't be an issue at all for melee physical builds and is just tiny bonus. There are enough rares for way less then the amount of that axe with more damage I could take with better bonuses I prefer such as chaos resist. On top of that, I can already chill targets when using the Hatred aura. TL;DR: Soul taker is not OP at all. I'm easily able to run multiple, steady melee characters with up to 5 auras running with only few points spent into mana nodes combined with 2~3% mana leech for unlimited mana - which makes the benefit for the mana effect very small. When using hatred the chill bonus is just some extra flavour. It has good damage, but like others mentioned the maximum damage you can get in the game on a 1Hander is not from that axe. Yeach i agree with up.
" Shame thats not worth it to using axes in this game.Especially when u dual wielding. Its worth actually only with soul taker for high dpc, chill and no problems with mana, but still u losing mobility cause u cant using whirling blades - the only mobility attack damage spell that deal damage of both weapons. Anyway thanks all for answers :) EDIT: To not make new thread i wanted to ask u what u think - better is cleave or dual strike with melee splash for physical damage? " True, missed indeed some thought on other skills. But still, cyclone supported with 4 or 5 gems gives an insane mana cost. Usually those builds prefer building towards Blood Magic keystone or using the bloodmagic gem in their links. Cyclone already itself has several problems. This skill is indeed an example which can work great and probeby function soultaker as a BiS item. Although let's not forget that there are still other issues that counter the "OP" part. |
