just from thinking logical I would guess you can only change a socket at a time. if it even works on multisocket items. additionally I would really guess it uses chromes because they are really cheap (allmost worthless) at the moment. vendoring jewelers for chromes seems like the most silly thing to do.
my basic guess for white sockets is three items with all sockets identical but one. and the one having the three colours. my thought behind that. it would actually make 6 linked whites possible. but they would be made of all possible colour combinations on six links possible. what would be the same as 729 6 linked items + insane amounts of chromes to get all the combinations (including 6 offcolour). additionally the recipe would be used 364 times. and koams cannot get sockets so it would not work there. anyway. I am pretty sure I am wrong because there should be a version for all the other colours as well and with this theorie it only leaves the socket combination with the two other colours in that spot+ recipe currency open. My main reason for believing this might be the case is ggg really loving their incredible difficult challanges. And I could not think of anything more impossible. with this recipe having one or two white sockets is actually possible but it gets expensive really fast. similar to the increased chance to have 3 and 4 links now. edit: another thing that makes me hope for white sockets is the three puritys having different colours. if you want to have a purity socket that socket would have to be white. before the patch iwas guessing they would end up all blue. but this version would work as well.
