I have been playing solo for 95%+ of the time the last three months, mostly farming maps with high MF. I played on nemesis for the first month or so - untill I ripped my lvl 87 char. I was playing a semi-High MF char (melee splash double strike) to allready start building wealth for the unique challenge, but invested most of my currency in gear right before I died (I lost the best 2H weapon in nemesis at that time, which i had just purchased and eternal exalted to 625 dps). I had completed 4 challenges at this point, with the shrines, leveing 6 chars to 65 (boooooring), uniques and bosses in 75+ maps remaining.

To have any chance at all at completing the remaining three challenges I decided to reroll to domination, so I could continue solo mapping with even higher MF. Sold my remaining things on nemesis, and transfered the currency to domination at a 2:1 rate. Started domination with rougly ~40 exalteds, and invested half of it in a 6Link chest and high MF gear. I decided to play an Elemental ST build focusing on auras, which turned out to be a good choice since it allows for very easy MF stacking for solo play since the auras provide all the offense and defense you need. I leveled up my char and continued mapping for the next 2 month, slowly farming currency to afford the uniques.

After clearing all bosses for the challenge I started selling my 77 and 78 maps to the top 20 ladder players, for rougly 1 ex each. I managed to sustain my 75 & 76 mappool for a long enough time to sell roughly 30-40 exalteds worth of 77/78 maps this way.

Most of my income however came from selling drops. While clearing the maps I was running roughly 290 rarity and 91 quantity, and I culled the mapbosses with 390 rarity / 91 quantity. Doing this for 2 months resulted in a Kaom's heart drop, the summoner mace (sold for 9 ex) and a crown of eyes (sold for 10 ex). Most of the other sales were a bunch of items for 1-2 exalts, a lot more items for 5-15 chaos, and I sold a ton of items for 2chaos . Having 5 stashtabs where u just dump in any item that u think is worth 2-5 chaos and listing it on the indexer for 2 chaos will result in a lot of sales. My best guess is I sold for about 100-120 exalteds worth of items during these 2 months. I have never flipped a single item.

The remainder of my income came from cross-league trading. Ive had a thread up ever since I rerolled from nemesis to domination, constantly trading back and forth (http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/524137[2] ). Trading my nemesis chaos and exalteds for double the currency on domination, and then doing the reverse trade where I offered 1.5 or 1.6 of my domination currency for 1 nemesis. So for every 10 exalteds i traded from nem I got 20 domination exalts, and then I traded 16 domination exalts back for 10 nemesis exalts, resulting in 4 exalts of profit. During these 2 months I probably facilitated rougly 50-75% of all cross league trades between nemesis and domination, and made somewhere between 50 and 70 exalts of profit. Doing these cross league trades allso helped a lot in buying the uniques, since some of them are cheaper on nemesis (in some cases theyre more then double as expensive on DOM, for example shavronne's wrappings).

After I had gathered a large ammount of currency, I slowly started buying the more expensive Items for the unique challenge. I sold a lot of exalteds while they were still priced at 38 chaos in Dom, and rebought them again at 26 the last 2 weeks. Even with all these ways of earning currency however, it became clear I could not yet complete the unique challenge; Soul Taker in domination was priced around 38-45 exalteds, and voltaxic is usually 50+. I started asking people whether they wanted to borrow me the Items in exchange for 50% of their current value, and the promise of giving them some of my challenge uniques once the leagues were over. Needless to say, noone trusts a person they dont know, so this did not really work out very well. Only managed to borrow a headhunter belt from a nice guy, but only after paying him 7 ex up front and talking a lot to him. After a while a friend offered to buy soul taker and voltaxic for me, if he would get rougly half of the items for the challenge after the leagues have ended. Since I did not really feel like grinding another 100 exalteds, and having no intention of continuing in sc after the leagues have ended, I agreed.

So thats basicly it. Pretty insane challenge, but a fun thing to accomplish. Soloing in this game is very viable, as long as u stack a lot of MF you will have no trouble. Mapping is a great way to generate income as well, and I believe it to be just as viable as farming piety or dominus. Item flipping is no requirement, allthough the currency trades definately helped me. In the end I still could not have completed it without some help and a crazy deal, allthough if I had farmed for another month I might have come close to being able to buy them regardless.

Completing these challenges did take a lot of time, but it was not the only thing I was busy with. While completing these challenges I allso finished writing my thesis and Ill be graduating and recieving my university degree next month. Needless to say, I did not come outside much the last few months :)

Most of the other items dropped during farming (approximately 27 of them) or were bought for 1-2 chaos (2 of them)

Total cost for me: Close to 180 exalts (not counting investments in maps etc) - Roughly 45 spent in nemesis, 135 in Domination. Total cost for me was higher if you consider currency in Nemesis has 1.5-2x the value of currency in domination, putting my total spent around 200-230 exalts.

Total cost without borrowing, race rewards and getting them as drops: 270-280 exalteds if you purchase in both leagues, might be lower if u get better deals then me or bought the items earlier in the league. Total Cost is higher if you consider extra currency spent trading your dom exalts to nem for better deals (300+ dom exalts in total then). Probably more expensive still if you buy all the items in a single league.

I want to start off by saying that this league was much harder to 8/8, but was also both more satisfying and more fun. I had every intention of not trading and playing solo but that was quickly cast aside as explained in the breakdown of challenges below. Additionally, I will offer my criticisms and suggestions at the end of the breakdown in hopes that something will add to this wonderful adventure known as Path of Exile.

1) Kill Rare Monsters: I found this challenge to be attainable through undertaking a reasonable amount of time and experiencing a fair portion of the game for both casual and hardcore players alike. Most were found from playing through the game with only a few exceptions needed to be hunted for in maps (two for me I think -- the boiling ambusher and the voltaic guardian). I enjoy these types of challenges and hope they continue to make an impact next league.

2) Touch these shrines: The shrines could have been an interesting addition, but I feel as if they were too weak (both for and against the player) when the league launched and their impacts were diminished. If the league's major softcore difference was the shrines then their impact should have been felt more. I did, however, enjoy the idea itself and would like to see more interact-able objects in future gameplay.

3) Slay the Nemeses: These hardcore mods were the perfect blend of thought-provoking difficulty and fun for me. One had to take the time to really understand the build they were doing even from early on and follow through with elevated play. For me, this iteration was more successful than the shrines in their goal: to add to the core game and make every playthrough a fresh experience. I remember almost dying to a corrupted blood mod with a spectral throw character purely because I was caught off-guard. In this sense, the league succeeded in that despite having leveled numerous characters between vanilla and the two leagues, there was something new to experience and adapt to on the fly when the most valuable of assets is on the line -- time.

4) Reach Level 65: I like that this challenge was changed from hardcore only to both leagues as it opens it up for more of the player base to experience builds with each of the starting exiles. More were able to learn the game without being scared of the hardcore stigma being some dangerous trap-laden battlefield where only veterans were wanted. I had fun experimenting with odd builds I otherwise would have blown off and have come to appreciate some of the less popular skills such as searing bond and righteous fire while leveling.

Thus far, I say of the 4 challenges, 3 of them have met or exceeded expectations. Anyway, continuing on...

5) Kill these Unique Bosses: When I first saw this list I thought it was going to be a cakewalk. My main character was a very safe Lightning Strike, Mind over Matter, and Lightning Coil ranger. I figured I'd hack away and win after sometime. Well, this held true until some of the 74+ maps. I learned one very valuable lesson this league: DO NOT MESS WITH SHOCK AND HORROR AFTER THE CHANGE! I actually had to prepare for a lot of these bosses with specific flasks and uniques just to survive their onslaught (Looking at you Crematorium). While I feel a few of these fights were slightly overtuned, this challenge taught you two very important lessons: Know your limitations and always have a backup strategy when your hp gets obliterated! In terms of overall challenge goals of forcing one to explore the game, this challenge did wonders in making the player understand endgame map mods and what their specific builds could and could not handle all while walking the thin line between better loot and staying alive.

6) Use the Currency Items: Not too much to say about this one other than a good way to teach show players most of the available currency without being boring or redundant. This challenge and the next one go hand-in-hand with this same simple, but effective, ideology.

7) Vendor Recipes: As aforementioned, this challenge is an effective way to teach players about a very important aspect of the game, vendor recipes. In addition, in order to find a lot of these recipes, most players consulted wikis, guides, or even friends. This in turn sparked community participation and involvement as well as the potential for players to help others learn. In the end, community participation is everything in this game and GGG understands that completely. That whole overused pithy saying, the one about the man and the fish, applies here completely. If we can educate new players then the game will continue to grow, which is best for both business and for us, the players. This, however, is NOT the same as holding hands. Successful games of this genre add in secrets or veteran tricks for a reason, to keep the feel for veterans that they are always one step ahead of the newbies. Again, a fine line that I feel GGG walk brilliantly. In fact, my only regret with this challenge was that I did not have to vendor another 6L for the divine orb recipe! Last league I was actually the first to complete that challenge, and I will never forget that mixed feeling of anticipation for the challenge to complete and total sadness of what I had just done...the holy grail of links...gone to Tarleigh...

That brings us to the challenge which I feel could use the most altering because it detracts from what the creed of these challenges has been...

8) Collect these Uniques: What more can be said than the list this league was extremely daunting. I understand that there were more players last league that completed 8/8 challenges than GGG every imagined. I think Chris had estimated somewhere around 20 and we had over 60 last league, which is really impressive and made me happy about all the dedication. So, this league, there were less uniques on the list (down from 90+ to 65), but those on there were almost all expensive premier-build items, which I'll refer to as tier 1 items for the time being. These tier 1 items were in total around 250-300 exalted orbs depending on whether it was domination or nemesis. I am not a multi-boxer, but I did have to make friends with magic finders quickly in the league. While trading and grouping is a major part of Path of Exile, sitting in town for hours on end spamming trade can be extremely daunting for most players. Sure there are shop mods and sites dedicated to making the experience easier, but the fact remains that I spent more time in town and on XYZ than on mapping itself, the major endgame focus.

As a compromise between too many free shirts and a daunting unique list, might I make the recommendation in the future of taking the Build of the Week project and fusing it with the upcoming leagues down the road? If instead of a random collection of expensive uniques, why not have the player collect sets of uniques that apply directly to some of these builds of the week. Naturally, there would be more interest if it were clear that say a group of 4 uniques were used in the construction of a specific Build of the Week and it was their task to recreate this build. Not only would they be more inclined to play a multitude of builds (which increases replay value), but they would be more active in general, tweaking the build and sharing it on these forums. When the forums are active, the chat channels within the game are also bustling with an exchange of information and strategy. A talkative player is typically a happier one. And of course, in order to make the challenge still a challenge, there could be builds that do have some of the high priority tier 1 uniques that are 30ex+. I would much rather feel like the trading I am doing is accomplishing something more than filling up stash space.

Overall, the challenges were well-done and despite working and playing way too much Dota 2, I did manage to finish them with some time to spare. I had help from some great people, both real-life friends and in-game acquaintances, and without them, I would not be boring all of you with these critiques/suggestions. In passing, I would like to announce that next league unless there is a major triple-crown prize for 3x 8/8 players (such as a trip to GGG or something) I will be playing casually only to take a break and have fun with everything. If any of you see me doing otherwise please remind me to get a life and maybe, just maybe, a girlfriend!

I KNEW I wouldn't be able to make it. The unique challenge was way, way too ridiculous this time. There was no way I would ever even attempt it.

Our map group that got formed in Anarchy/Onslaught league made a guild called Project Mayhem. A rather small guild but we were always playing/talking/mapping together. I got so much help from here I can't believe it. I promised to not bother them due to challenges, but in the end I broke my promise.

Voltaic Guardians are map-only, but we ran maps all the time anyway. PoE wiki greatly helped locating the missing rares.

I was mainly playing domination. By the time I reached level 91, I've already encountered several echoing and divine shrines.

Leveled a generic ground slam / heavy strike marauder to 71, and gained access to maps. I was still missing Inner Treasure mobs. Roffo helped me kill them. Thanks Roffo!

Reach level 65

* Scion (dom, 91): Cookie cutter spec throw / double striker. Farmed most of the exalts with this guy.
* Marauder (nem, 71): Generic ground slam / heavy striker. Path of HP nodes
* Witch (dom, 65): Fire trapper using searing touch. Wasn't fun
* Duelist (dom, 70): Abyssus+Meginords facebreaker
* Templar (dom, 65): Cybil's Paw EB/MoM/AA incinerator. Was very nice. Might do again next league
* Ranger (dom, 90): Voltaxic rift crit ranger. Most expensive build I've ever done.
* Shadow (dom, 65): Physical crit dagger spec thrower. Didn't really care.

I did most of the non-orb recipes with 5-to-1 recipe, cuz I was lazy. Regal recipe wasn't a problem since our group mapped all the time.

Own these Unique Items

This challenge was just crazy. I wasn't even going to attempt this at all. It changed when I randomly put a chance orb on a white spine bow on December 18th, 2013. I unlocked an achievement and seconds later I realized there's a fucking Voltaxic Rift out of nowhere in my stash.

I was destined to go for 8/8.

I tried to buy the rarest uniques as soon as possible. First uniques I bought were two Goddess Bounds, and made one of them a Goddess Scorned. Then I went for Thunderfist, Void Battery, Taming, and Berek's Respite.

I did not take MFing into account while building my spectral thrower. My guild always had an MFer, which I fully depended on. My clear speed was good and I was very tanky, but since I had no IIR/IIQ, nothing dropped on me. I made a shop and started farming Dominus, by bringing him down to last hit, going to town, changing into full MF set, coming back, and culling him. Nobody wants to do this shit for more than 1 hour. I did this for almost 8 hours straight every single day.

I used unID chaos recipe (gives 2 chaos). When there are too many of one slot, I ID those with the best bases, and either vendor or put up on my shop. All my items were tagged with buyouts, which helped fast item turnarounds. I realized my shop was going way better than I expected, and so were dom runs. I earned 3 exalts worth from Dominus runs alone, just from chaos recipe and vendored shards each day, and I picked up rares/uniques worth 1~2 exalts every other day too. I had tons of 2~4 chaos worth rares, many 8~16 chaos worth, and a few 1~multi exalt worth. I was flooded with PMs to the point my sceptre of god instance expires often. I never flipped once, not because I'm against flipping or anything, but because I just don't know how. Sometimes people pay in a variety of currencies. I gather them all, change into fusing or chaoses, and then exalts. Public party was a quick way to convert currencies.

In the end, I earned almost 200 exalts in just 1.5 months! I wouldn't recommend this to anyone because it's so boring it almost drove me insane, but dom runs was the most efficient way for me at that time.

Best items that I found myself (other than voltaxic) are two Lioneye's Glares (one from Tunnel, another from Coward's Trial), a 6L ilvl 70 crusader plate that I put 100 chaoses to roll decent mods and sold for 13 exalts, a Bringer of Rain, a Romira's Banquet, a 284 ES dual res gloves sold for 7 ex, and a IAS+HP+res+leech gloves for 7 ex.
