Wands work pretty well too since they increase cast speed.

BUT on the other hand, I'd love to see how GGG approach this request with their penchant for relatively original skills. I would be disappointed if they took the easy way out and just implemented a 'whirlwind' like skill. I imagine some sort of support gem that turns stationary attack melee-range skills into mobile ones, while amazingly ambitious, would be a possible solution much more suited to PoE
A good idea would to make it have draw backs like (Less accuracy) while twirling to make you invest in accuracy nodes and what not to make the player more invested in it so it's not super appealing to all mauraders..... or witches ;)

Would be nice to play like my old WW barb from D2, though it has to be alot like D2's for me to like it I don't care for D3's it got old fast

Sweep has a set attack speed which I think cannot be improved. It's a shame because I wanted to swing a staff really fast :(

This is obviously one of the big requests.
I remain ambivalent.
Whirlwind in D2 was so ubiquitous it basically made non-WW barbarians seem inefficient and not worth playing. It was, to my memory, one of the first 'cookie cutter' builds in any ARPG -- not as if D1 had skills to start with, although I suppose you could say the KSOH/obzod/GPOW set up was pretty cookie cutter.
Anyway, the lack of a mobile, high damage but relatively slow AoE attack skill in PoE is glaring but not entirely crippling. You don't see Marauders suffering for a lack of one. They find other ways.

Time shall tell, either way.
First off, remember this is not D2. WW was the preferred barb build, but again this is not D2. Personally I went Concentrate with the attack that made all physical damage magical, but I can't remember the name. The Concentrate had a huge boost to defense and with the IK set I could take down any monster despite their immunities.
Now I swing an axe in sweep, leap slam and Inferno blow. Each has a purpose and work well together. The new tactics I had to learn are part of what makes the game enjoyable. That said, I wish armor worked the same as D2, but I have gotten over it and adapted. Give it time and you should be fine.

Brian said on Kripps stream they are planning on a whirlwind skill for claws, but not for 2Handed :)

That was YEARS ago.
Mainbuilds are WW & frenzy. Amok / Concentrate / Throwing Axes / Warcry are also valide builds, but not cookiecutter (well, with the right gear a Warcrybarb is pretty amazing).
And Concentrate did physical damage, but buffed your armor a lot while attacking. Synergies came with 1.10 - every point in Amok made 1% converting the Concentrate damage into magic damage.
Some people need to play more D2 I guess.
And just because "this is not D2" - dumbest stuff I've ever heard.
OH NOEEEE, WE CAN'T DO THE GOOD STUFF FROM GAME X BECAUSE THIS IS GAME Y!!!!!!!
If something ist good (and Diablo 2 has many many many many builds to offer, I can name out of the head at least 5 for every character minimum), then it should be concidered for a game in the same genre - PoE is an ARPG like Diablo 2.

It can be improved. Attach a faster attack gem and it speeds up the attack.
It is just not based of your weapon speed anymore.

Firstly, watch the attitude and the hyperbole. 'dumbest stuff you've ever heard', I highly doubt that.
Also, I quit D2 YEARS ago. I was in the closed beta for that as well, and recall that WW barbs dominated the 'barb' class not long after release. I don't really care what happened after I quit the game -- my observation stands.
And I don't think that MoonYu's point was that we couldn't do it. I certainly didn't say that either.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.
