I think we're starting to see 2 types of groups forming.

The teams we're getting for 3v3 CTF rarely end up giving us overly 1-sided matches. It happens, but a lot less than what seems to be going on during pure 3v3s.

Lib's crowd is T1 build spam with mostly offscreen kills and bow builds with some exceptions. I don't think a 1-30 ex build makes any difference here if you're using the right gem setups and the current meta skills. The super high budget builds obviously end up getting better min/maxing, but ultimately the winner is decided by the combination of skills used primarily.

Ahfack's crowd is more inclusive. We just invite anyone that wants to have some fun. If their character sucks, because it's CTF, other players can pick up a lot of slack or the shitty character can just make flag runs or distract the enemy team a bit. There's more room for a variety of builds that can each serve its own purpose between the 3 primary roles (fast tank/flag runner, DPS middle and defender).

Personally, I think showcasing CTF matches makes it a lot more appealing to the public compared to pathfinders offscreen spamming bow stuff until the next round.

Yeah, you're definitely not wrong man. :)

Many people have mentioned some things to me I agree with, so I think I'll talk about some here.

Please take the following statement in the spirit in which it was intended. I am not "flaming" anyone or talking shit, I am simply being honest and trying to have a conversation.

We're friends, I will always be supportive of anything they do: Upvote on reddit, comment in threads, etc... but I simply do not enjoy pvp'ing with a few people in that vid. Even if I'm on their team in 3v3, I just don't enjoy it - I feel like I'm cheating. I remember being on Lib/Lapiz's team in a 3v3 one time and my work phone rang. I answered it and continued to play without worry because I knew it didn't matter what I did. It's not a game to me at that point, it's so boring, and I get no satisfaction out of it. I stopped playing games with cheat codes a long time ago, and to see some revel in broken mechanics for YEARS just baffles me. Doesn't it get old? I've only had my bullshit vortex character for about 3 weeks and I'm already bored of him, and I get no satisfaction out of playing him. The only fun I have is practicing aiming etc... which is kinda lame for a long term thing...

I just think some of us want different things out of this game. I play this game in order to have fun with friends, gear up, and make characters that are cool and fun to play. Some people make characters with the sole intention of being as powerful as possible at all costs by using as many OP/broken mechanics they are able to shove into one build. That is one of the things that is wrong with PVP, why so many people hate it, and - yes - why many people reach out to me to host matches. I never have to organize or make threads, people come to me and we just do it - simple as that.

Seeing how many things you can abuse in PVP is not fun for me, and I think I'm in the vast majority here. I'm here to have fun, not to win no matter what.

In a related note, I saw DDup's (lol namechange for no name/shame) abomination of a fanon-clone using Brood Twine LA main hand and whirling blades offhand to kite, and I about fell out of my chair laughing. Now if he can fit HoT and vortex in there somewhere, he'd be King Meta!

I think until GGG actually puts forth some effort in fixing PVP, friendly CTF matches with no ego is the only good way of promoting PVP.

I'm not surprised you guys couldn't get a CTF match going with those builds, I'm not surprised it didn't get that good of reviews on reddit, and I'm also not surprised Lapiz had to change builds because he's too OP. When I saw/read those things I just thought to myself, "Oh yeah, of course". No explanation needed.

If people keep only playing Pathfinder/offscreen/OP bullshit, you're going to wind up holding your alt arts in town by yourself or only PVPing with serious quality players like DDup and IuseCurrency. SOUNDS FUN! :)

Yea, I can kinda say from experience now that the crowd Ahfack draws is much more fun and diverse than what I got with Lib's little group of tee-wunners and their one-shot lazy builds.

Showing the community that they have to have THAT level of power to play is basically the same as telling them "enjoy the matches in spectator mode :)", because if they aren't hopping aboard the Pathfinder bandwagon or using some bullshit methods to get kills easy, they're just not going to have a good time. Ahfack's matches usually have 1-shotters every now and then, and if there ARE any, they're usually balanced by there being another 1-shotter against them. With Lib's group, the ONLY person I could say I stood a chance against was maaaaaaybe Marcusscszcszcszcs, since he was using Fireball. It'd be a stretch to say I could handle Bondisk, too, but I've fought him enough to know that I can occasionally get lucky.

Good Guy Afhack speaking the truth and that's why you'll never see me in those games because of boring broken stuff and the fact you allow obvious "legit" brain dead copy/paste players to participate.

We reached the sad point were you either use all this bullshit stuff and games are just dice rolls or try to play something more interesting and got stomped. There is no place for theorycrafting anymore, meta is all about abusing secondary damages/no T value skills and offscreen mechanics (both of them at the same time if possible) and pray to hit your target first.

It used to be (tolerable) fun before but the ascendancy power creep pushed the whole thing to a level where you don't have any fun be it on the stomping side or the stomped one.

Pvp maps are unplayable and the arena is now limited to "run away until their flasks run out, try to off-screen them during the downtime, repeat"

That's pretty much it.

You truly are the new me, just far friendlier. You demonstrate the same ambition I once had and put in lots of effort.

As long as people keep playing bull shit, PvP will be shit. It also discourages new players from entering this side of the game unless they too prefer the shittier side of PvP. Organized ego-less CTF matches are good for a handful of people and while teams somewhat pseudo band-aid balance issues. Ultimately what you're demonstrating in these videos is more of the same. Instant 1sec kills, auto movement, chaotic MTX lag etc...only difference is a guy carries a flag occasionally.

Just count how many people went from Witch to Inquisitor Templar, melee to ranged or Pathfinder in general. You didn't have to do this to "compete". You did this because the shit was obviously lazy and broken. It's only now that 90% of the PvP'rs use those things that you too need to finally use it to "compete". If everyone stood their ground and min-maxed what they had before we'd still have semi-intelligent PvP matches. Instead the bandwagon is weighed waaaaaaaaaaaay the fuck down with lazy ass mofos.

It's the best there is to showcase until things change. Thing is, if no one plays, then GGG's not interested. As long as we keep getting people involved in friendly 3v3 CTF matches, showcase videos and petition Chris to look at us in a new light, we're doing the best we can.

[Removed by Support] I mean, it's not like the majority of the "young hopefuls" that come through are being held to the same standard you guys are suggesting for yourselves. Many are using what ever is meta pve. Lot of bladefall trappers and jugg dischargers on daily days in arena, only a few interesting builds (some of which enter the fold, just look at teapot and potato). If you were looking to connect with those last few folk I suggest the direct method, communication. You'd be surprised how open a lot of them are when you just sit around arena shit talking.

The thing is... Where do you draw the line on what is "broken" and what is acceptable? Skills without t-values, hugely expensive min-maxed builds, builds with little natural counters...

Seems like one person's broken is another's acceptable.

The fact that the community grown from 10 players to maybe 15 in two years should say a lot about how stall and boring pvp has become. You either abuse well known never fixed old mechanics or the new broken stuff introduced without pvp balance in mind.

Without a diminish return damage formula and some serious tweaking on the same old broken stuff (secondary damages, traps, crit), things will only get worse until we finally reach the day I prophesize where you'll be able to kill someone just by clicking on the screen (we got extremely close with the spark build).
