Hacked Accounts

Do you use the same password for your e-mail address linked to your PoE account?

It's not the case for me at least... And I don't think some1 can be that stupid either lol... We are in 2013, even if some1 is playing his first pc online game in life (with poe), it's impossible that the person is using Internet for his first time in life too... Everybody come from the planet earth (euh in theory lol) so everybody heard the word "hacker" a couple time.

Trying to figure out why the locked failed. It's the only reason I can see why they got their account(s) stripped even though the account got locked.
Please keep the trolling and name calling/ridicule/flexings of epeen to a minimum please. Otherwise the thread will be locked.

Happy hunting/fishing
This is on GGG's end. The mass hacking have nothing to do with end user mistakes this time.
If it was end user, this many would not be hacked all at the same time. I'm using hacked loosely due to the fact it wasn't a keylogger, nor was it brute forced. Seems to be just a stolen list of some sort.(my logical guess after all the messages I have read through) I just hope GGG actually has a proper security team in place and its not an afterthought. Would be nice to see evidence that they are actually pursuing this issue, instead of what seems to be just the normal PR diversion response.

Well i just found out that my account was hacked i have never shared my login/pass and my system security is top notch...

no keyloggers mail is secure different pass's ect ect...

Yet i have been hacked there has to be a problem on GGG's end!
I have many many online games/mmo's ect under my belt and have never been hacked no noobie to account security here.
Yeah, haven't been able to play last couple of days. Did see that I got a mail with a security code..

Thought "Oh well, i'm safe then"

Nope, just logged in to see my account being stripped of all valuables.

Your security system is flawed, sorry to say
The majority of the population is infected with at least one piece of malware.

Yes, this includes you.
My account was apparently hacked, also.

"Your Path of Exile account has been locked because someone logged in from a location that you don't typically play from - "Shaoxing, Zhejiang, China"."

Fortunately with the new measures put in place requiring a code to login from a different location, they never got into my account to actually take any of my stuff.

Despite the fact everyone else says the same thing, I'm gonna toss my note in the hat and say I am also an internet savvy user who does not use any third party tools, does not use the same password for multiple services, maintains a high quality security suite on my computer and does not even visit any community websites. Heck, this is probably the first post I've even made at the official site.

I always thought all these websites/games switching to using emails as logins was a really bad idea. It used to be, your login/username was another layer of protection since hackers had to be able to figure that out as well. (Assuming you made it different from your character name/display name/etc.)

I will say my password was kind of weak, being a six letter word and could relatively easily be brute-forced if that was the method they used somehow. I have changed it to something longer.

The majority of the population don't know how people can get their account hacked.

Yes, this includes you.

It has happened before(d3, Rift) SQL injections.. The hackers doesn't even need to know your god damn login name. What made this possible this time was the unstable servers they had a while back.

Stop thinking it's our fault, when you don't know jack shit

It would be nice to keep this thread at a civil level and to stay away from name-calling. Keep the conversation constructive.

I work in IT and I am an educated user. I know for a fact now that the breach wasn't caused by my actions. Yet, my account was hacked and stripped. I don't expect to get an answer or reparation but I would like to point out that anyone could become a target at this point until the issue is resolved.

I know some of you would love to blame the user's ignorance and carelessness to feel more secure, but tough cookies, that's not the way things are.

After getting home my account in fact got locked and nothing was touched. I don't understand if in fact your account got locked but yet your account got stripped. Do you use the same password for your e-mail address linked to your PoE account?

My account was put on lockdown, I got warned of the suspicious login by email and prompted to input the code so I could log back in. I logged in to find all my orbs were gone, the rest was untouched. All of that in the same day. The email I use has a unique password, so does PoE.
