Hacked Accounts

I'm not saying it's impossible for GGG getting hacked but their database is well secured and encrypted so in 99% of all cases you can be quite certain that you just haven't paid enough attention or used your e-mail / password somewhere else, where this info was stored in plain text (or weak encrypted).

And how do you know this, did GGG tell you personally?

I have second-hand information (was shown through teamviewer) that GGG's servers have been compromised in the past, both the game server and database server with the login information. There's a lot that GGG is not telling us, and continuing to take this stance that if someone accesses our account that the losses are our problem is just not fair when they cannot even keep their own servers secure.

nope, they stated it and there is no reason not to believe it.

We take security very, very seriously. The website and game client both use secure encrypted sessions to handle logins. We don’t store credit card information on our servers. Passwords are stored hashed and salted. Even the backups of your data are encrypted so that thieves can't get anything if they steal the backups.

I wonder how I could get hacked during my 2 week vacation then, not having typed my password for ages (storing password)...

Oh wow, yes, let's ignore all these evidences and weird series of events that seem to be pointing towards a security breach, let's trust GGG, they can't possibly ever lie to us.

I'm not saying GGG are evil or whatnot, they might not even be aware of it, but it's pretty evident that there was a breach somewhere.

I love GGG as a company, I love Path of Exile as a game, but that still doesn't mean I have to blindly believe what people say without any proof, *especially* if the rest of the world seem to be steering toward the opposite direction.

The fact that I, myself, got hacked is a pretty big evidence (to me) that there was a security breach as it's pretty much impossible that it was an error on my side (no, I don't care if you don't believe it, it's okay, I don't mind. I just know what I'm talking about).

After reading most of the posts of people who got hacked in this thread, I'm pretty confident to say that it wasn't a user error (at least for some of them).
WTH, just got hacked for a second time in 2weeks !
I changed all my passwords after the first hack and take a unique password for PoE, my pc is clean and still got hacked.

I called the support and they said they can't do a rollback!!
I think GGG is hacking US !!

It's nice informing others about such things but this is hardly related to the topic. People aren't getting hacked because of Java vulnerabilities (unless such vulnerability allowed hackers to get into GGG's database, which might be likely)

This time.. not just an idiot.. but a fucking idiot...

..these people are here and upset about something and you chime in like some "expert" and put the flames out with gasoline... to all of you trolling the people who got hacked...please keep your opinions to yourself ..it would be nice to have a community that supported each other.

I'm glad others agree that the supposed in-game "economy" is not more important than losing customer support, loyalty, and respect of those who supported and were going to spend more money on this game.

GGG needs to change their restoration policy or offer a paid restoration service.

Positive. He showed me how he could easily download the entire server files and run his own server if he so chose.
lol I sign in after several weeks of not playing only to find I had to input the code do to a city change. Funny thing is it didn't send to my email address and I had to have it resend several times. the sad part was when I got in I was missing my crafting gear and unique summoner feet. I'm pissed now because I was not notified through my email of an unknown attempt on my account.
