Tencent has Invested in Grinding Gear Games
Is now the majority holder...
Will this change how we operate? No.... at least until you’re told otherwise by your majority. Glad you guys got your financial partnering, but if there’s anything I’ve learned from bringing in investors for funding (development projects mostly) it’s that you NEVER give an investor majority. It means it is no longer your project. It is theirs. You get to do the work, they get the final say on its quality. |

Fuck this. I will not pay another cent to GGG. Not one cent. I didn't pay in the past to have the fucking company sold out. GGG has basically said fuck you to everyone who spent money on the game.

" " Yup, this as well. Not giving GGG another dime now. I have no interest in giving a Chinese mega-company ($800 billion USD company) more money. I enjoyed supporting GGG and PoE as an indie company and product, including the wonderful fact that you could download and install their game from them directly (ie: their own publisher). But now with Tencent owning GGG, no thanks. GGG, you lost a whale here. No more supporter packs from me. I wonder how many other whales you'll lose as a result of this acquisition? As for whether I'll still play or not, I'm not sure. Not really that interested in the next league, especially with short timers (GGG keeps rewarding speed clearing). And after this announcement, even less motivation to play. ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄

Very disappointing to see this. On the bright side it came out before I got paid this week, saves me buying this league's supporter pack!

How could you sell to Tencent?
With their involvement in the Chinese Govt's "Social Credit System" (which is absolutley insane. "Sesame Credit" ), any money spent on POE will now directly support that. It sucks that I can no longer support a company that I've been so very appreciative of. |

Tencent is an incredibly shady corporation.
Sad to see this happen. No more support from me going forward. |

Lets not forget one important detail...
The people who work at GGG have families, bills and need to put food on the table. Though I am skeptical myself, I would like to believe that this simply allows the developers and everyone who works at GGG to continue pouring their hearts into the game they love just as much as we do. |

I don't even know where to start with this one, so much is floating about in my head, but i'll keep it positive, and if anyone at GGG could chip in with answers that would be great.
How much dose tencent actually have, it's a majority hold of 80% we know, but do they for instance now own the copyrighted material for PoE? PoE2 or Chris's PoE directors cut for instance, if you decided to start working on one of those dose tencent have any right to it or would they be able to block it if you published under a different company? Now that you have another (large i hope) source of income, how is the game going to change? I know you claim that it won't but as a purely business point of view it has to. Stuff like bestiary, how likely is it that you'll shun doing stuff like it, aka risky or different which may not be well received, are you going to just not risk it because you are bound to meet a target? or are we now going to see a lot more of the breach style stuff in an attempt to keep stuff "popular"? Now that you have the money dose that mean that the team will be expanding? Now that you have the financial backing dose that mean you can develop stuff for the game that you were not able to before? Stuff like a linux/mac client which i believe Chris said he wanted(but was not viable at the time due to cost), will this ever become a thing now that you are not constrained? Or how about porting to a different engine which people have been going on about for a long time, dose the extra money give you the freedom to do so? I'm sure i'll think of more and others will chime in but i would be interested to see the answers to some of the questions. Ancestral Bond. It's a thing that does stuff. -Vipermagi

It was very cool that PoE was a free-to-play game supported by only cosmetic mtx.
Or was that support not enough? Can you at least post some information about WHY did you decide to do this? |

Can just join as some have said.
Any purchase I did, was done while knowing I give money to smaller studio who is passionate about their project. This transaction denies any eventual purchases in future. All we can do is hope, that the PR crafted text of this news, which is undaubtedly based on nothing but PR, will have at least a little value as the time progresses. IGN : Impz (Warbands)
