Weapon type: Whips
I dont know if anybody agrees but I would totally love to see some kind of scythe class weapons added to this game.

I loved my Reaver and his nasty whips in Dark Age of Camelot, so a character here, armed with a whip and some nasty life leach skills would be so cool.
As VaJayJayWalker said, a scythe would also be cool. To add them at this point would most likely delay the game, with all the extra animations and weapon designs needed, but it sounds like two perfect weapons for the first expansion or DLC. :) |

Thanks for the replies. I hope one day to see some whips as a mainstay melee weapon...a melee weapon that has a decent range on it. :)
I was thinking that some of the skills could be "subjugation" where the target is "converted" or has a %chance of conversion to fight for the whip wielder. Kinda like the mind blast attack the assassin had in D2. This could "synergize" with minion based classes well by allowing them to gain temporary minions so they can get "the ball" rolling. Kinda would answer the old necro question: "Where do I get my first minion from?" Also, having the whip weapon class be given the ability to "ensnare" an enemy would be a good way to include mass life or mana leech. Imagine that one of the skills was called "lamprey" and allowed the whip wielder to "lasso" or "ensnare" one target with the whip and then using some "dark" or "arcane" ability to leech life or mana directly from the target for the duration of time that the whip is attached. Imagine the possibilities if a character could dual wield whips...allowing them to use their right hand weapon to "ensnare" and thusly use the "lamprey" skill to leech life or mana from a target whilst with the left handed whip launch regular and repeated attacks on the other targets. That be pretty wicked. I think to limit "exploits" of such an ability, the "lamprey" effect either has to be limited to a "timed effect" where it only lasts for 4-8 seconds before it drains the target completely to the point of death...all attack skills should be lethal or at least potentially lethal. This would avoid being able to infinitely drain life/mana from just one target. That would slow the game play down tremendously and that would suck. However, a faster effect and shorter duration of the "lamprey" skill would allow the game to remain fast paced and still keep the skill relevant. |

FerinusDominus has some great ideas on this. I think the whip as a long(er) ranged melee weapon would be pretty cool. Things like life/mana leech, ensnare, stun, knockback, all fit perfectly with this weapon type.
Another weapon that fit into the whip class to add variety to whips would be "linked" swords or spears(have seen weapons similar in many manga). |
