0.9.9 Patch Notes

I just think there should be a way for a player to either insure his item somehow against getting worse, or purchase at excessive cost something that won't degrade it. Like use the orb -> proposed new item -> dialogue box asking 'keep change? yes/no'. The orb gets used either way - you just don't have to take the change. That way, you can have a five-socket, roll 100+ times, and not end up with one socket.

really good Idea ! confirmation box but destroying the orb anyway... simple but totally less frustrating... I like it +1!

... nothing

Although I am loving the patch changes, I am somewhat disappointed about the lack of the ability to switch between 2 sets of weapons with just a click/button

Excellent patch non-the less

Silty, the problem with that is that there then becomes this artificial barrier to the joy of discovery. Decent six-link items don't drop. Ever. If you happen to get a six-link, it won't have decent stats. These things have to be built. If the game then becomes something where you simply farm orbs to purchase gear from other players... there isn't much joy in that. You get a sense of distance and disconnection from the accomplishment yourself.

A leisurely playthrough will get you decent equipment for any build with a few 4-links. You're basically asking for the absolute best gear in the game from just any casual single-player playthrough.

Realistically (in my opinion), you can have an almost infinite amount of good streaks on items and they pass unnoticed, but one really bad one runs the risk of permanently alienating the player out of sheer frustration and a sense of wasted time and resources.

And once everyone so self-entitled are gone, the feedback forums will be a better place.

Magic items drop less frequently, while rares and uniques remain unchanged?

That was where my smile died. Right there.

Seriously, less magic items dropping towards the end of the game should be a good thing. In the end-game, magic items are actually worse than whites since you either have to spend an extra scouring orb before using an alchemy orb, or use an expensive regal orb to upgrade them to rares. On the other hand, if you really want more magic items for some reason, getting them with orbs of transmutation is really cheap.

You're missing my point: they decreased the drop rates on the least useful/important items, but kept the abysmal, virtually-nonexistent unique drop rate intact. It's insulting, plain and simple.

This entire genre is ultimately built around one thing: loot. In the end of the day we're playing in the hopes of obtaining that new pair of boots, or that axe, that is 1% better than what we've already had. But I've gone days on end without a single upgrade in PoE because everything that drops for me is useless, whereas virtually every other hack-and-slash RPG I've ever played had more sensible gear progression.

I love this game, but it's slowly becoming more frustrating as I realize that time invested into Wraeclast is not as appropriately rewarded as is time spent in other, similar game worlds. Even Titan Quest had loot progression down better than this, and TQ paled in comparison to D2.

Meh, one week from today all of my complaints become moot....
Nice patchnotes looks like my melee ranger and bow witch get buff)
Just this patch is infinitely more appealing to me right now, than a game I've preordered that is releasing next week.

Really looking forward to dying horribly with the monster changes.

Awesome job guys.

I joined up a couple weeks ago and just got in with the $10 donation. I ended up putting more in because I value this game. I can see it's going to be great. Don't let any of the people with grips discourage you. This is a BETA and things are bound to change / get "wiped" at least you offer the migration.

I'm going to creating a new Dual Wield Duelist to test out this patch before the weekend, come the weekend though I'll have to test out Shadow :)

I think the drop rates and difficulty is getting gear is awesome, don't change it to make it easier or you will lose long term players. (Just my Opinion)

But Kaom's Heart is way more overpowered than a six-link - a six-link won't let you survive chaos with a 2-handed or dual wielding build.

For a less grindy alternative, try cleave with increased AoE (without concentrate effect).

The problem is monsters do 1-2k damage in one hit. I use sweep - how does cleave with increased AoE help in comparison?

Man, you're a negative individual.

First off, I don't see how self-entitlement comes to play in a video game. I stated I didn't mind farming time, I just found the risk of destroying a good item in pursuit of a better item not to be an enjoyable experience. Can you explain how not having the gambler-mentality makes me any more or less entitled than the next person? Or how my taste makes me a detriment to the game's community?

Second, there's a world of difference between a four-link item and 'the best items in the game.'

Third, nowhere did I say I wanted to achieve anything in a single playthrough. I've got a level 72 witch with startlingly bad gear - I just barely achieved a five-link robe with pretty terrible stats very recently, and you don't even want to see how bad my rings, wand and necklace are. I don't mind farming for 30+ hours for a marginal upgrade, I just want to feel that my thirty-fifty-hundred hour farm sessions have a definite point and don't leave me with less than I started.

And if none of this comes about, I'll still play the game. I just won't get into the endgame, because I'm self-aware enough to realize that it'll just end badly with me blowing increasingly absurd amounts of orbs and resources trying to get something, then ragequitting when the numbers don't roll my way.
