Prepare for the flood of GPUs

If by "the people hoarding the cards" you mean the manufacturer, who months ago determined today's production based upon yesterday's demand

then yes.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.
Wouldn't mind if this nonsense was banned altogether. And of course, coins had to be made ASIC resistant to (among other negative impacts) further strain the silicon supply, because otherwise ASICs would have mined out the reasonably difficult coins too fast, which would have then Required a surge of fiat money for bitcoin or eth to retain any value at all.

As for the GPUs, good. A used gpu from a mining rig maintained by someone who knows what they're doing is likely in excellent condition.

The other option what he means with "flood" is waterdamaged from condensation.

I still don´t get why they use Graphic-cards instead of Processors.

I was waiting for a flood of GPUs during the last dip but everyone in my area held strong until this recent dip. Now there's loads of GPUs on the market. Make sure to a newer one with a receipt and matching serial numbers, so that way it hasn't been mined on for longer than a few days-weeks. Which might sound stupid but I personally buy GPU's for MSRP, post them on Facebook for little to no profit. While the second I get home, they are mining for me until they sell.
amd made a record profit last year (sorry, german)

i don't think prices will fall soon, they will just stall production to keep prices and profits up

Because mining requires a lot of parallel mathematics processing, which GPUs are designed for and CPUs are not.

You really don't want to risk buying one that's been mined for a while because they just burn them out and buy new ones as the old ones burn out.

It sucks, because yes the price fixing will continue now that NVIDIA and ATI discovered what the market will bear.

You can pass all the laws in the world to ban crypto mining and the prices won't budge because the manufacturers can and will price fix until a new producer enters the ring, or the technology changes and gets away from them.

I never buy used PC components. Call me paranoid, but they neve last.
Sensible. If you buy new, then you also have warranty if something goes south.

As for GPUs used for mining, it's a common misunderstanding that these GPUs won't perform or have "Worn out". It's not a mechanical device (not talking about cooling atm), but electronics. Worst case scenario, some capacitors have failed. Most likely a premature death for a GPU is a short circuit due to poor management.

Any serious miner wants their equipment to last, so they'll undervolt/downclock the chip. If it operates in a relatively dust-free eviroment it'll be totally fine.

Have had experiences with used GPUs in the past, with everything from sketchy capacitors, to failing fans, they're not technically a "moving part" but they have components that a) have moving parts or b) have a finite shelf life.

Mining is probably not the worst but because the sheer volume of cards on the market spending some of their life cycle in mining arrays, that's what you'll see.
