Blackjaw is a garbage boss, one shot mechanics shouldn't exist in any game.
I'm playing on PS5 and my biggest issue in this fight is not only the invisible hit boxes, but also that my char does sometimes not move in the direction i intended. No idea if this problem occurs only with controller gameplay and it's something that happens here and there (shooting or moving in another direction as intended for a short moment), but not as often as I noticed in this fight and, above all, never for so long.

Yeap, came here to say the same, this boss is broken. To all the people in this thread defending one shot bosses, go play on hardcore.

it was harder to survive that boss, than doryani. It for sure have less telegraphed attacks with extremely high daamage

" What? Why these 2 bosses? For me, both of them were like side-bosses. Went it, killed them and proceeded. Chimera is super easy, especially if you know that you can destroy to columns he is standing on and giving him a super long stun. And Blackjaw? I got hit, be he never one-shot me. If you get hit twice in a row, that's your mistake. The bosses forgive one mistake, but two in a row? That's you not learning the telegraphs and not dodging. And I play sunder warrior, just so you know. So I have to get close and my attack is super slow. Chimera was only annoying because it flys away so fast. But other then that? Easy to beat... " Because it's 2024, which means if you lose at a video game it's the game's fault, not yours, and that injustice should be fixed immediately. |

" This is so far from the truth. Dodge roll is designed to be used in the perfect moment. Using it blindly will result in failure, because when bosses attack, they follow you during their wind-up. If you just dodge roll, the boss will follow you and then you get hit because you get a massive slow down at the end of the dodge roll animation. Timing is what matters here. You have to dodge roll the moment the boss stops following you. You really need to learn when his "wind-up" stops, THEN use dodge roll and you will definitely get out of every hitbox, because dodge roll starts with a huge "movement speed boost", but ends with the slow down. Most players however dont have that skill and start rolling as soon as they see the start of an attack wind-up animation and then they get hit... Like always: Players need to start to get better at reading boss movements. PoE2 doesn't hold your hand like PoE1 does. " Haha so true. People are used to TikTik and Youtube-Shorts and don't have the patience anymore to learn and read boss-patterns. They want the game to hold your hand until the end. If something is to hard, the game is designed "badly". Some people here seem to forget that this game is not designed for a big audience, but for people who love hardcore experiences. The companies name is GRINDING GEAR GAMES. The grinding should tell you something already... If the game is to hard for them, they should go back to PoE1 or play something that holds your hand... " Bruh, I beat this boss by standing still and bonking him a couple of times You can absolutely just tank him without learning his mechanics if your build is strong enough (You can do that with every boss in the campaign) |

In normal act 3 he was pretty tough, but only because of the triple slam, if you get hit by one of the first two you'd get staggered and then one shot by the third. If you dodged the first two, the 3rd one is a typical 'break the rhythm' bait, but instead of the more common delayed attack (think Margit in Elden Ring), Blackjaw's 3rd slam is faster instead of delayed, and it has tracking so if you are panic rolling you'd be hit by the 3rd. My biggeset complaint is the hitbox and not being able to see some of the moves clearly, as the room is very dark and for some builds mob ground effects have visibility issues. In Cruel act 3 my lv63 witch melted him in under 20 seconds, only saw the triple slam once. Difficulty curve is completely out of whack. Normal is pretty hard especially if you have bad RNG with gear, and cruel is so easy it's a joke.
He's nothing compared to the Viper, that one needs some nerfing. Btw if you're melee, sometimes the easiest way to avoid a tracking aoe attack is to stay close and run around the boss. Tracking stops after a short time, I notice usually about 90 or 120 degrees, then you run a little more and you're safe. With these massive aoe slams, obviously the further you are from the boss the bigger the aoe area, so stay in melee range is actually eaiser. Last edited by z3mcneil#3966 on Dec 19, 2024, 10:19:37 AM

Yah this boss is cancer. A terrible fight that kills pretty much everyone more than once until you get the cadence down PERFECTLY - plus, as mentioned, there's some wonky stuff going on with his attacks. Definitely needs to be adjusted. I'm guessing HC players skip him altogether and come back when they're 10+ levels higher. That's probably the best thing to do.
All that and a bag of chips!

The one shot bull shit in this game completely ruins it. Zero respect for my time played. It makes me wanna chuck my controller across the room at the TV. Invoking that feeling in people is definitely not fun and it's horrible for your game!!!
