This makes me really sad.
I recently saw his GDC talk about playing poe forever and it made me come back.
It's like Gabe would sell Steam.

This is not a complaint to existing directors.

He was probably sick of Jonathan badmouthing PoE 1 every chance he gets.

On a more serious note; He has "been at it" for 15 years, taking PoE from a garage project to a titan in the ARPG landscape. Now his baby comes second and he has passed the torch, and can enjoy the rest of his life on the Tencent money, spending it all on MTG cards.

i kinda hope he faces an existential crisis and suddenly makes another game to prove to himself it wasnt just luck/fluke and he can do it again :)


he named it Grinding Gear GameS but only made one game really, then vanished. lol


could be a card game since he loves that stuff so much. Do to hearthstone what poe did to diablo. i'd play that for sure.

If POE 1 is 9 out of 10, POE 2 is like 2 out of 10. Nobody play the game any more, the whole mechanic and conception of the game is super bad Diablo 4 alike, it doesn't matter how many hours they put in it, it will be forever bad game. Chris Wilson realised that and lost motivation to be in the development team, so he stepped out for good.

actually feels like diablo 4. maps are tunnels and skill not great as poe 1.

I'd always thought his name was actually ChrisTIAN -- hence the need to abbreviate it to just "Chris" since it's so embarrassing.

Now that I learn it's actually ChrisTOPHER, I'm REALLY surprised...
WHY abbreviate such an awesome name, when you could have mentioned yourself in full as:
"ChrisTOPHER Wilson"

Once again, the real world is not sufficient... so just make some stuff up and believe that instead.

We don't know why Chris left, but we can infer some things pretty easily from the fact that he's not posted about it and neither has GGG... this at least implies it was sudden and there was some amount of animosity.

The face of POE has been retired (at least from GGG) for a month and even his friends in the company haven't said a kind farewell?

I can't help but find this suspicious along with the timing of Johnathan's hasty and uncharacteristic "news apology" 8 days after he filed Chris's paperwork.

BTW POE2 is still maintaining a large concurrent player base in month 4 that is not a lot smaller than many POE1 league starts. Despite being paid admission.

But if you prefer to make stuff up about no one playing it then go ahead. I'm posting this for the people who aren't crafting stories so they aren't tempted to believe bad information.

Soon we will see who signed GGG's FY24 financial documents in early December 2024. It should contain Chris's signature. What if it doesn't?

I guess It would be evidence they hired or promoted someone to CFO?

I mean, it could imply something about Chris, but only by about 1 month. Right now I see pretty strong implications that Chris was ousted in January by the person who signed his official NZ documents.

The conspiratorial types are believing everything they read that someone on 4chan probably made up that feeds into their preference. They are actively ignoring facts and direct contradiction of their stories, as is tradition.
