EXP loss on death

Fortunately for the people who love the punishments, Path of Exile still exists.

This game still has a chance to made into a challenging game, instead of a punishing one.
After 400 hours I am taking a break. I am tired of grinding for 2 days to get half a level only to lose a quarter of it after a 0.5 second lapse of attention.

It's bad enough I have to micromanage poorly written minion AI constantly. I also have to play a screen away from the action cowering behind my army constantly strafing and moving to avoid poorly designed and over-tuned mechanics.

Yet even tho I have over 10k Energy Shield and 1500 HP, the moment I start to get confident enough to step up with my minions and try to enjoy the experience and get immersed, some bullshit one-shot snaps away 2 days worth of my game time as if I weren't already wasting away enough of my life by playing for 6 hours in the first place.

I'm done. Moving on.

You don't get a reward for getting to 100... there's no pat on the back mechanic.

So why are you upset that you don't get there?

Upset about what??

What are you talking about?

This entire discussion... you know, that you just commented on... is about the exp penalty for dying in POE 2.

I have no idea what tangent you're going off on there, bud.

POE 1 wasn't in EA...

So, yes this game is getting a ton of negative feedback about some of the ponderously bad development choices they made with things like exp penalties, ascendancy trials, lack of travel powers/mounts, lack of endgame beyond "mapping" (which was also an issue in POE 1), No campaign skipping for leagues (which was also an issue in POE 1), etc. etc. etc.

This just proved that GGG is incapable of stop designing mobs and mechanics that can one shot player. This is just from the experience in PoE1 league after leagues. They will probably be stubborn about it.

Also seeing people say if XP death penalty gone, GGG will bring more one shots into the game, so XP loss need to exist lol.

Can't believe there are people who think no xp loss = more one shots. How about none of those BS in the first place?

Guess my expectation of GGG ever provide proper balancing is way too high. Get ready because we are going back to the "you one shot me or I one shot you" game play like PoE1. Sigh...
Make it a game mode option for the small minority who think this is a great idea. You know for those who are better than the majority.

Or maybe just remove one-shots sudden deaths which is actually the problem!

Because mostly directly after a mysterious sudden death the reaction is ... HOW THE F?

2 maps from 85% to next level down to 63% ... both stupid WTF deaths right off the bat ... i am close to done with this game.

"Make it a game mode option for the small minority who think this is a great idea. You know for those who are better than the majority."

^^^ This is actually an idea that's been floated for a week or two and I personally think it's the best way to appease both camps. Elitist masochists can make it as punishing as they want so they have something to show for their wasted lives. Normal, well-adjusted people with jobs and lives can enjoy some downtime after a long day. Everybody wins.

I'm with you on this! Awesome that it's getting more traction.

Just wanted to say though, "those who are better than the majority" is just a myth. Elitists aren't actually better than you. They just want you to THINK they're better than you.

If you come from other games that are more gamesense/technically demanding i.e. FPS, FGC, Soulslikes/Monhun/Elden, PVP-based games, then you already know that ARPG players are actually the worst technical players of all the genres. They're great at theorycrafting... and copying each others' homework. But they're terrible at execution and crack under the pressure of the game's challenges and the weight of their own egos.

Even MOBA players, for all their toxicity, deserve respect for their skills in PVP and landing skillshots/wombo combos. That's actual skill.

It's BECAUSE elitists know they're not skilled (how can you be, in a glorified clicker/walking simulator at the highest levels of "skill"?); that's why they're so loud about convincing you that they're better than you.

Arrogance is loud. Arrogance is what it THINKS it is. It's all bluster.
Elitists desperately need to "appear" good.

Confidence is quiet. Confidence is what it KNOWS it is. It has been tested.
Elite players (good players) just practice and improve.

I want everyone to feel free to express their opinions because even if we all leave this game for good after Sunday's patch presentation or stay if positive changes come our way. The coming weeks/months will determine the fate of this game: mainstream or niche.

Your solution would fix it for everyone: Opt-In. It's great and I hope more people get behind you.

yup, I've been level 91 for over a week playing T14-15 maps. Does not feel good every time i get close to 92 die 3x in short succession. Its really awesome to die on the final trial boss to a tornado that will kill you before you even can move out of it with 8k es 77% capped all res 70% evasion with it effecting all hits. I just feel trapped into mindless xp grinding until i get a fresh level and when i get more than 3 bars of exp its like OK now i have to not do any boss maps, pinnacle bosses, trials or anything even remotely dangerous for the next week it takes me to get a level. Its just awful.
Couldn't agree more. Cant tell you how many times i have just randomly been one shot by something i cant even see. As a level 91 monk losing hours of progress due to something you have no control over is not fun, nor does it make the game more challenging. It just sucks. Get rid of this crap.
Elitist try hard liars have been in games like this since the beginning... they aren't better than you they just lie about it on the forums for cred.

Hysterical.
