Why dedicate my time if I can lose all my XP with a death penalty?

There's an item in the game you can buy that cuts the exp loss by 75%. Anyone level 90+ should be keeping one of those in their inventory, even if dying is extremely unlikely. I forget what the price is on the currency exchange, but it's around 8-16ex. From level 1-90 I had like 90 deaths, but from level 90-95, almost 96, I had only 3 deaths, and for all 3 deaths that occurred, I had this item activated, so I lost very little exp.

Omen of the amelioration?

Interesting ( for me to know as a new player still discovering things ) and this is the first time I see this mentioned. So thank you for that.

Which makes the XP penalty even WORSE as a mechanic, as now they balance the game around everyone having that.

What the XP penalty does is make players risk-averse. It teaches them that challenge is something to be avoided, and it is better and more rewarding to play on easy mode, where death is not a possibility.

BTW in this thread I have been quoted word by word and approved by a way larger percentage that all of your posts combined (I feel the need to repeat myself for sad, toxic and aggressive people like you) on this thread.

uh....okay....what a really weird and petty flex. Also demonstrably false. But you got me interested. You were quoted positively once, by some dude who writes in all caps. Thumbs up to you! You are clearly 100% correct.

By extension, there are far more "different" posts (from different users) against the OP and your position than there are agreeing within this thread. Not to mention the hundreds of other threads I've seen on this exact topic throughout my 12 years with PoE.

But that's irrelevant, you're still wrong right here right now whether others agree with you or not. They are also wrong.

Lol, the focus was this thread not all forum and also if you can focus for a bit longer we are talking about poe2. Never played and never cared about poe (there is a reason why just you and another dozen is playing poe1). Also it is funny how you say the majority here is wrong because we don't like wasting time mechanics.
You just became boring because ... you are not worth an explication anymore :(
GL in your 99% hardcore life and poe2 endgame hours of time wasting. bbye

You hear from SSF commonly how they have fun with drops, where as in trading using crafting currency to craft feels like a loss because you could have bought a better item you can ever get yourself. This is a key factor here and should be kept in mind when considering future player retention.

This is so far from the truth. I have played poe 1 since release and i usually craft my way to currency. Once u farm a bit of crafting currency u can make lots of currency abusing the crafting system and playing hideout warrior, but u got to know how to craft and which items are in demand in the current league which is often based on the current meta. Ez way to currency but also a bit boring but ill bet u there will be more options for crafting in poe 2 too

my god....ggg needs to work on teaching people how to read. How about instead of an exp penalty they force players to read an essay and then answer questions on it?

The sheer absurdity of some of these responses in the last few pages is baffling to me. Misquoting, misreading, deliberately obfuscating, completely making up statements, using terminology incorrectly, argh.

No wonder these folks hate the death penalties...I bet they are dying every 5 freaking minutes, if this is the level of comprehension brought into the game itself.
Starting anew....with PoE 2

Amusing that you have to attack characters now and appeal to triviality, if that is not in favor of penalty removal nothing is.

Well he cant do much else but keep spouting random crap.
Not like he answered to my essay regarding his bullshit either.
He doesnt even understand what character progression means so what else do you expect, sad truth of the matter.
I dont understand how people are still crying about this.
They had a reason for not changing it in POE1, they added it to POE2 for the same reason.
If you want to know the reason then they have explained it in several interviews.

Its pretty basic.
If your dying so often that losing 10% exp is a big deal then the content your doing is too difficult for you.

Play the game on easy mode. Challenge is for suckers.

Sorry, this is just bad game design.

So in your mind those are the only 2 options?

Either play on easy mode or die repeatedly.

Yes terrible game design, thats why its used in pretty much all the top games.
Im sure you know better
