Why dedicate my time if I can lose all my XP with a death penalty?
" Ok so you didnt like the mechanics in POE1, you dont like the mechanics in poe2. Every1 who disagrees wtih you are just dumb veterans for enjoying a game. Maybe you should find a different game to play that you enjoy and leave this game for those that enjoy it? | |
" I do enjoy the game up to endgame. The endgame is terrible. [Removed by Support]. XP mechanic is dumb, terrible for players and anyone trying to enjoy the game. MOST, and i mean ABSOLUTE MOST of the players hate XP penalty combined with loosing map content and a Waystone. The only people who do "like" it are so called veteran players who enjoy the "game" where the only thing you do is farm creeps to then trade for 5 hours in hideout. [Removed by Support] |

" Bad faith argument. Made up absolute consensus. Hyperbolic exaggerations. Placing blame on an imaginary divide between those familiar with the franchise, and those that aren't. [Removed by Support] |

https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1457463 I would suggest you read this. Its the forum code of conduct. Being a new player I dont think you are familiar with it. |

" It's a literal part of the game; it's a part of the challenges. It's obvious you don't need to reach it to be able to do the endgame, no one is arguing that. What my point is, why is it poorly balanced around a time sink. Why does it have to be so punishing, knowing most players won't even reach it. That is a terrible design imo. If there were no season resets, I would get it. In PoE1 it takes on average 500 hours of gameplay to reach max level without dying. A league last on average 90 days. Thats roughly 4 1/2 hrs of gameplay a day for 90 days I'm not a math guy but man that sounds futile for most people. Reason I want XP loss on death removed is the same reason Ive had since 2013.
At some point it feels like a waste of time when you lose XP for 1 death you would spend days (casual) to regain. Adn when I feel its a waste of time, I quit that char. Last edited by dralshady#3926 on Jan 5, 2025, 2:47:50 AM

To add to this, you answered your question already - don't. Don't dedicate your time to the game that can't respect it. You can see already in this post that there is a small group of very vocal veteran poe1/diablo players who don't know what good games are. For them, it is ok, they dedicated too much time of their life to be critical because that means they might admit they wasted a lot of time on creep farming simulator with stupid mechanics.
Developers on the other hand, they might be a lot smarter and actually listen to people who are gamers and not ARPG players and actually decide to make this game better. I will be watching what patches they deploy and what changes those bring. And if they remove XP penalty or at least other punishmemts i will gladly play more. Also, you will certainly see how those veteran players will suddenly forget what they were saying and pretend as that is what they wanted all along. I myself am tired of having conversation on this topic. If the game remains this punishing and unfun i will stop playing and thousands of people will too. I enjoyed the campaign and some of the endgame. Already worth $30 i spent. |

Nice kindergarten - crying about penalty for dying :D
If you die a lot play more tanky class/build, run blue maps, run lower tiers. The options are there. Penalty is too low. The last few levels should be reserved for really good players that play balanced builds with balanced atlas tree. You should know what you and your build can do and what you should skip/avoid/reroll. |

" Sure its apart of the game, but it isn't supposed to be THE goal, its just one of many optional endgame goals. It rewards you with nothing but the passives that come with it. It is not meant to be something that EVERYONE achieves. This is by design. It IS achievable, just not many will do it. You seem to acknowledge you understand this. The problem here is a failure to recognize what leveling up is. It is by its very nature a time sink. If you remove the penalty, leveling up is still a time sink. Recognize the reality of filling up a bar for what it is, a time sink. If the time spent seems unreasonable to you, I get it. They will no doubt mess with the numbers and changes to the endgame, but it really doesn't have any bearing on whether or not an xp penalty exists in the game. And even then, leveling up will STILL be a time sink. Do you need it to be more interactive than that, or have any ideas on how to do that? |
