Slam attacks of Quadrillas and Vile Vultures can't be evaded?

Sorry, but what kind of bullshit is this? They literally hit every damn time. What good is evasion for, if it doesn't work?

Evasion is for strikes and projectiles. The game tells you slams and red attacks with the audio queue can’t be evaded.
I don't have the exact terminology, but Evasion doesn't work against Area of Effect type of attacks like jumps, slams or charging mobs.

Any mob that jumps towards you might have an attack that cannot be "evaded" through evasion. The only solution is to step out of the way or roll dodge.

Otherwise, I think that the keystone passive Acrobatics make it possible to evade every attack type, not only strikes or projectiles, at the cost of a significantly reduced evasion rating.

So basically, while playing a very high evasion build, if you have some kind of life leech/life on kill, you pretty much can ignore most monsters attacks and projectiles (both spells and arrows) outside of the "avoidable" ones and exploding corpses. With 85-90% evasion, rarely will mobs manage to hit you often enough to kill you, but on the other hand, you really have to watch out for those slam/AoE attacks. Unless you have plenty of Energy Shield, your effective health pool could be too low to survive one of those hits.

What's more annoying is that PLAYER slams can be evaded ... monster slams can not be evaded as far as I'm aware.

YMMV.

Neither Evasion nor Armour are actually a defensive stat right now.
When you need them, neither of them work.
Armour doesn't do anything against large hits and most large hits can't be evaded. And not just the red, flashy ones. And it's not just slams and ground effects either. Just random crap can't be evaded.

That, and the fact that you can't actually scale life (apart from two 3% nodes on the tree that are almost on opposite sides on it...) means that Block and Energy Shield are the ONLY actual defensives right now.
To be fair, with a lot of work and Acrobatics, Energy Shield + Evasion CAN work, but it takes a lot of investment, since Acrobatics lowers your Evasion by a LOT.

So yeah, unless Armour and Evasion get reworked, do what everyone else does and go ES.

Sure, I will certainly waste 12 skillpoints on "+5 to X" to reach that node with my merc and more than half my evasion chances.

Mitigating a bullshit mechanic by some far-away node with a heavy downside on the skilltree isn't a solution.

So are armour and ES, but the difference is that both work against slams, too. I'd understand it if evasion would work less well against slams, but not having it work at all is total BS.

You didn't read, did you?
Armour ISN'T. It literally doesn't do anything against big hits or anything non-physical. Armour and Evasion can mitigate small hits, NOT the shit you actually die to.
The only thing that can mitigate the big hits right now is Energy Shield and stuff like Infernalist transferring flat 20% dmg to doggo, since Life can't scale.
