Slam attacks of Quadrillas and Vile Vultures can't be evaded?

A 2000 dmg slam would kill my character

And you don't see how 10-20k ES would help with that better than any amount of Armour could?
Really?
Are you trolling?

I never said that, [Removed by Support]

You literally asked for help, got it from a bunch of people just to stay ignorant and acting like small 2k hits are big hits just to defend ignorance?

I didn't ask for help, either, neither literally nor figuratively. I complained about the fact that evasion doesn't work against certain melee attacks. [Removed by Support]

Pure Evasion without acrobatics is just an armor build with zero armor.

It will remain non viable as long as certain attacks are unavoidable.

ES/evasion before acrobatics is just an ES build with a lower total ES. It will be workable with grim feast until monster damage catches up a bit into maps. Passives in the tree help it along until you get enough total evasion for acro.

I can't speak for Evasion/Armor, but likely isn't going to protect from the kind of attacks that are non avoidable.
The Defenses in POE2 seem like in principle they have balances built in but that doesn't stand up to closer inspection.

On first appearance:

Armour - Has the advantage of working against the most common damage type physical, but the disadvantage of not working against elemental damage unlike Evasion and ES. Seems balanced.

Evade - Has the advantage that it works on all damage types but the disadvantage of being unreliable against big attacks. Much like armour it is effective against lots of small attacks where the evades will average out giving a similar effect to armour but also mitigating elemental damage. Seems balanced.

ES - Has the big advantage of working against all incoming damage but has the big disadvantage that it doesn't recharge unless you avoid all damage for a short but significant time. Seems balanced.

In reality, from what I can gather:

Armour - Also has the disadvantage that it doesn't help much against large attacks even ones that are entirely physical. In reality, mainly useful to mitigate lots of small attacks from trash. Not much use against bosses and of no use against elemental. The only way to make it actually good later on is use it to boost/generate energy shield.

Evade - In reality can't help against certain big attacks at all and cannot be relied upon against large attacks that can be evaded as they don't reduce the damage - you either avoid it completely or die. The only way it is good late game is when used to protect an energy shield.

ES - Has the advantage that there are passives which completely mitigate its inherent disadvantages. That make it both huge (basically equal to health pool) and also so you can generate ES easily with potions and grim feast. Doesn't seem to be a hidden disadvantage and doesn't need to be used in conjunction with either armour or evasion.

But I'm not an expert, just going by what videos etc I have seen. Seems borne out in my monk.

So far it works relatively well, at least for me. I'm running a grenadier merc at lvl 82 currently with 4295 armour and 9251 evasion and I've died 7 times so far, 4 of those in acts and afaicr all of them totally my own fault.

The only thing that really pissed me off yesterday was that I learned that slams can't be evaded. As I said, if the chance to evade those would be lower, I could understand but no chance at all is just bullshit.

Sorry, but what kind of bullshit is this? They literally hit every damn time. What good is evasion for, if it doesn't work?

You can if you get acrobatics (passive point in skill tree)

I know, but I play a merc so that's too far away and I'm not sacrificing more than half of my regular evasion chance for the occasional slam I'm too dumb to get away from.

I just wish it wouldn't be completely useless, just maybe a bit less useful compared to regular attacks.
