Not many games with an upwards trajectory when it comes to player numbers are being shut down. If you can find a few examples here, you're welcome to share.

Factoring in these points should also make you think a little bit:
- GGG have repeatedly called PoE "a game designed to be played forever"
- GGG have repeatedly promised further development
- GGG have repeatedly talked about both games having overlapping leagues
- GGG have hinted towards PoE 2 development not affecting PoE
- PoE has had a steady increase in player numbers
- PoE had the highest league launch numbers ever in the last league

The problem isn't PoE 2 being the priority; it is and has to be. The problem is mainly what was said, promised and peoples expectation, in addition to PoE 2 being in a real bad state, and filled with design decisions that makes a lot of old time PoE players skeptic about its future.

Now, I don't really think PoE is being "shut down", but the total lack of interest in even some small bread crumbs towards their core fan base is really worrying.

You don't see the problem with them not telling the playerbase that the game was going to be split into POE1 and POE2 when they decided on it? And instead telling the playerbase well after the fact, well after POE1 players had put a lot of money, in good faith, towards POE1 being made better? And all that good faith money, instead of going to POE1, funneling to POE2?

You don't see the issue with the players being told POE1 would be supported, and POE2 would have minimal impact on POE1? And now being told that they have to wait an indefinite amount of time? After players have already waited 3 more months than usual for a new league?

Look, I figured it would be an uphill battle, but that does not excuse the fact that they are using money from POE1 to bankroll POE2 and leaving POE1 in the dust and leaving the players in the dust after they said it wouldn't happen.

Like I said I was never naive enough to believe they were going to sustain both games simultaneously. To think that given the size of their studio + the massive hype of PO2 is absurd. If you fell for it and gave them money that’s on you.

I knew from the very moment they said they would continue to develop POE 1 it was BS.

The difference between us is I never believed for one minute given the size of their studio they were going to be able to sustain development on both games. Especially given the immense hype of the new game.

Anyone who actually thought they would, yall are absurd and illogical.

Also given how massively successful their launch of POE 2 was, with the millions of players that bought the game, it would be absurdly stupid of them to focus on an "OLD" outdated ARPG that had such a tiny player base to begin with.

Time to let go, POE 1 has what? 20k players? POE2 is still maintaining close to 200k (steam only stats)? Which would you focus on? I would venture to guess not even 10% of POE2s playerbase has any interest in the overbloated crap game of POE 1. It's dead, we are in 2025, time to move on, evolve, and focus on the new generation of players POE 2 has attracted.

Who are you trying to convince here you love what they are doing you can support them, im done with them i owe them nothing and they deserve nothing from me . I staunchly supported GGG because of PoE 1 and despite PoE2

Everquest 1 a game released in 1999 got a new expansion in 2024. It's sequel got released in 2004. Those games have a way smaller fanbase than POE1 & POE2, if they can do this can GGG do this.

I hope this is just a temporary hitchup and we will get updates to both POE's untill at least 2040!

GGG doesnt care about the OGs, nor should they. POE 2 attracted a huge new audience, and thats who they should focus on. Some OGs will come over which is great, the rest of you, honestly no one cares. Move on

Time / years doesn't mean that the game will fail eventually or become worse / boring.

Diablo 2 totally displaced D1 because it was WAY better than D1.

Poe 2 sucks ass, it's not even close to Poe 1.

Cant say i disagree that actually believing that the game is gonna be expanded for literal eternity is naive, but then... even if poe1 is not gonna get updated anytime soon, im still not gonna leave simply because its still the king of its genre. If i leave, where i would go to? D4? Maybe ill get into poe2 when it actually comes out, but i never get early access ever because i dont wanna pay to be a beta tester just for the sake of playing earlier(and consequently, getting tired of it earlier), i can wait for when the product is actually finished and ready, thank you

I can appreciate poe1 even on the state its currently in, its a very good game as it is. As someone who often play standard, i dont need a new gimmick every 4 months to enjoy the game

I'm going to point this out again. People were giving GGG money for POE1, when GGG had already decided and or started on POE2, thinking the money was going to help make POE1 better. A lot of people, had they known that the money was going to POE2, would not have given GGG the money, because they had no interest in it. A lot of people on this very forum left at that point.
