Loot progression is terrible

Eh Diablo 1 had better loot progression than this. Modern arpg design is literally "you must rely on trade to progress".

I don't even care about endgame loot at this point: The campaign is not supposed to be a struggle/grind for gear. I shouldn't need to grind campaign areas several times just to "maybe" get my character viable enough to continue the campaign.

Yes it is and you should.
You've been spoiled by modern ARPG design.

Huge "newer generation kids are all lazy" energy there.
What's the actual argument? That old ARPG design is better because it wastes more of the player's time instead of giving them a choice?

The campaign shouldn't be literally free, and shouldn't be throwaway content you sleepwalk through.
The campaign should be an actual video game you interact with.
The campaign shouldn't be something you have to overlevel and overinteract to counteract the poor loot progression either.

Shouldn't it? According to who?
MMOs are out there giving you campaign skips because "leveling character from scratch" is an outdated design in any game in which you're supposed to play several characters.
Again: this already exists in MMORPGs, which is the genre that begun as "create your character and level it up".

Also, most ARPG's campaigns suck. It's boring, easy and shallow content with no compelling story.
PoE 1's campaign always has been throwaway content people rushed through.

Last Epoch is already ahead on this matter, by the way.

Just allow players to skip the campaign if they want to.
Opted to skip campaign? Select your permanent buffs, then your character is sent directly to the hideout-thing in Act 3 and it's set to lvl 55. But that's it. No flasks/jewels/gear from campaign quests. You only get the permanent buffs.
First character of the league will inevitably have to run the campaign (even if very overleveled) because you'll have no gear to map with.

Forcing players to run the campaign from scratch in a lvl 1 character every single time feels like I'm back in kindergarten and my mother is saying "you can only go play after you finish your homework".
