Burning Ground...no gameplay fun or reason here
I know i'm not the first. doing very well at at lvl 95 running juiced maps, but god forbid there's burning ground, especially with something like lower resists or reduced life refresh rate etc.
yes i can run them, but such a pain if i need to stop for a pick-up or ritual rewards etc. far as i'm concerned, zero gameplay value Last bumped on Feb 25, 2025, 4:07:05 PM

It does have zero gameplay value, and GGG is aware of this, as we've been telling them this for probably the last 3 years? In multiple leagues we've pulled the ole screenshot of 90% burning floor and some 3% puddles of non fired ground, and they dial it back... but somehow it always comes back.
How many times have they dialed back "__ on ground" effects only to have to dial them back every 5-6 leagues again, and again. This is a perpetual problem GGG is married to. They have chosen to die on this hill, just like archnemesis. However when *they* die on that hill, that's the end of it. There's nothing we can do. Over the course of my last 6 ish years playing I can tell you -- GGG dgaf about what we think. Or we would have the crafting bench and 6 portals already. |

I doesn't have 0 gameplay value, but the lackeys that are affected by it will always cry...
Burning ground is there to stop your energy shield refresh rate or your life being topped up with eternal youth ....The purpose is to stop the regen starting that is it. Never invite Vorana, Last To Fall at a beer party.

" But ES is one of the 3 official major defensive stats, its not simply a prep tool to be played around with. It does however explain why Spirit Skills regenerating ES are pretty much ez mode, although with the huge weakness of no viability in a difficult boss fight. For me personally the game sucks the versatility out massively by having to focus so heavily on hybrid defense but anyway, I haven't played in a long while and they really have a ton of work to do on crafting and making the End Game have some form of interesting replay-ability besides item luck finding for the hell of it but sticking to the topic of map debuffs, why isn't there at least some interesting defensive unique's to counter bs like this and the Auto charm system is the biggest failure mechanic I've witnessed in an indepth/no life game tbh. |

" We all understand what it's purpose is. There is 2 problems with it: 1) It has no counterplay outside of "don't stand in it" (shocked ground and chilled ground are the same, however they are status effects. Meaning standing in them is a trade of - either I don't stand in it and don't have the status effect or I do stand in it and have to accept that I am slowed or receive more damage from enemies. There is a choice. Burning ground is just straight up "don't stand in it" or you die) 2) If a mechanic is a mandatory skip for the entirety of the playerbase then something is wrong with the mechanic, not the playerbase. I see that shit on my t16 waystone. I skip. Simple as. And I have never heard anyone say "man, I do enjoy me a map with burning ground" |

I will reply to everyone in one message. That's why faster energy shield start rate is there.
Unfortunately PoE2 is not really balanced to begin with. Everything has down sides and has been cramped into a smaller tree, which is why you have huge's amount of x% to energy shield while having - to the starting of energy shield regen. And yes, ES is a defensive mechanism, but you the game shouldn't have to be played on Mario on fire mode, like literally zooming through the whole map without picking anything. You should have kill -- > pick ( give time for regen to start) --- > start over. That's why we need a mechanism to force regeneration of ES so that it works with things like "energy shield regeneration is not stopped if you began recharging it"...A mod that is currently found on Prayers for Rain Keth Raiment and it is bugged Lol. Even if it wouldn't have been bugged it should have been tested if it works with ghost shroud, because ghost shroud says that you regenerate x% when getting hit, and should be the same regeneration as Rain Keth Raiment mentions, so you should always regen energy shield if you get hit and lose a ghost shroud stack. The idea is that ES is an End game Mechanic defensive, not like everyone uses it right now with overflowing mechanics and wondering why they are dying, without understanding the core mechanic around it. Also the mechanic is not skipped by everyone in the community. I do not even notice it to be honest... But it is indeed annoying when you have eternal youth and you cannot flask your life up and you get burning ground. Meaning you have to sit still from time to time to let your life regenerate, which is stupid I will give you that but it is what it is and it has been in PoE since forever. The only difference in PoE1 you have a lot of ways to by pass this ( pantheon, wicked ward, a lot of faster start of ES regeneration, mods that make you immune to it and so on which bypasses the nasty effects), which in PoE2 are none. There is however 1 single way to bypass the nasty effect, eternal youth with a good flask and no damage to life things...So there is way I guess...But I do agree it is a little bit stupid. There is a whole lot of negativity in this thread that can be summed up easily.
Stop trying to justify your bad experiences. Not every mad modifier is good, easy, or even capable of being handled by every build. yes it is that simple. Just don't stand in the burning ground. Or better yet, don't roll the map. Or even better, use a mana/es regen character and laugh as you stand in it with no damage. Not every character can handle every element of the game. Me personally, I don't have a problem with burning ground. But I can't do maps with reduced recovery. And i struggle a bit more with +mob life/resistances. So i don't do those maps. |
