Loot in campaign is still awful

I started a new character a few days ago and just finished act 3. There were slightly more exalt drops than before the g patch but not even remotely enough to work with them as crafting materials.
With 59% rarity on gear I got maybe 10 exalts and 5 regals and burned through another 20 exalts from my first character. Even with this "crafting investment" some of my gear is far behind. At level 46 i wear a lvl 23 wand, lvl 27 helmet and lvl 31 belt. Things would be way worse had i started completely from scratch. And consider that many players would rather have saved what i spent for trading later on.

Generally loot from act bosses is abysmal. Often they don't drop any currency at all. From the "final boss" Doryani i got a rare item that was of no use, two blue items, a rune, a regal shard and 600 gold. There was 1(!) exalt in this "final map".

I don't understand what GGG's philosophy is behind this scarcity. It would be a fun game loop to be able to check at least 1-2 white or blue items each map to see if it could be an upgrade. Instead we go for many levels with no gear progression. 99% of all the white and blue drops are a waste because we can't check them and 1-2 hours later they will be too low level. The rare drops are in most cases useless garbo too.

By all means if some people enjoy this poverty lifestyle give them their ruthless hardcore mode or whatever but for those of us who just want to enjoy a loot based game with a sense of progression give us something to work with!

Well, I can help you! Ideally, you should go back to town to click on the flask well and check if vendors have something good for you.
It's a loot based ARPG, not a shopping simulator.....
loot in this game is pretty terrible in its current state.

way too many things do absolutely nothing.

99% of the uniques are total garbage. Essences are laughably useless.
i argue that campaign is too rewarding.

bots were farming forked spear, someone said he has 9999+ of them.

Geonor Act 1 cruel: 3 regal shards, 600 gold, two useless blue and one random rare item. 75% rarity on my gear. Also only 2 exalts during that whole act. drops seem to actually get worse by adding rarity. Most of the better currency dropped very early in the campaign.

I don't know about you all but i expect decent loot to drop from bosses in a game.

I couldn't agree with the OP more -- leveling through the campaign feels bad. I love the campaign story, the bosses, everything EXCEPT how fokn weak my character feels. No joke, it's like Druid in D4 on release day.

An RNG looter needs lots of loot (and lots of crafting material) to deal with the randomness. If you get lucky, you have a great time for 10-15 levels. You get unlucky, the game is barely playable.

How's that affect me? Why would I give a fok if someone collects 9999 fokn spears. Good for them. If the game sucks in SSF, then the game sucks period.

Exalts are a late-game currency, don't waste them in campaign on gear you're gonna replace every hour.

Except GGG has stated they want exalts to drop during campaign. The function of exalts is crafting. RNG is RNG so you need lots of crafting materials to perform lots of slamming. I never replace my gear every hour because there are not enough drops which are categorically better than the crap I'm currently wearing. I've finished the campaign with lvl 10 gloves simply because they had +1 melee skill affix and I could never get another pair with the same affix. Nor could I slam one with the 10 exalts I got during the campaign.

You can finish the game naked with a 2H sword. Doesn't mean you'll enjoy it.

This is a new game. None of POE1 dogmas actually matter. I give my feedback about what feels bad in this game. Bad loot drops and lack of meaningful organic gear progression (not trading) is a major pain point. My new character is now level 54 and i still run around with a lvl 23 wand. That's just ridiculous.
