Too much grind and randomization - Cause of loss of target audience.

My friends only join leagues after I grind out 400-1000 hours and get stuff. I speed run them through the campaign and then we play together.

I'm not complaining about getting them through I don't care about that.

What I'm making this post for is your company. If it wasn't for me actually getting them through the game you would have 5 less customers spending money.

They hate the campaign. It's fun the first time but after that most of us dont want to see it again.

They hate the hundred hour grind just to get a build online.

These are guys with jobs, wives, kids, lives. I just happen to have more time because I don't have kids and my job has better scheduling.

If out of 6 people I'm the only person who is willing to play your game to the level you have designed it you're missing out on a large number of target audience.

Ironically over time they are more likely to spend money than I am. I did my one big supporter pack and will never spend another dime unless I feel the game is worth that much.

Essentially when I burn out you lose 6 customers. Having a more deterministic and less grindy way of keeping your players engaged will help keep players around.

Do with that information what you will.

For real. I just want to have fun with my friends.... not all of us are 16 with no lives or commitments anymore.... we rarely get enough time where all 6 of us are able to play games anyway why make us spend so much time just to be able to play.

This is 100% accurate.
With an hour of playtime nobody is chasing unique items. I sometimes find some exalted and that is the pinnacle of this game. All the rare and trash unique items are just for collecting. They dont do anything.
I kind of understand why they keep campaign compulsory. Though like half of acts 2 and 3 could be trimmed with no real loss (whether through map size or just losing a few). But yeah broadly designing a game for people who can do the equivalent of 3+ Elden ring runs (in time I mean) every 4 months is er... always going to reduce your player base.

Preach

I'm 100% okay with grinding through the campaign once every league. I like the campaign, but the repetition for every new character is not happening. Once we've beaten the campaign the first time it would be nice to have some sort of fast-track system to skip it for the duration of the league. Hell I'd even pay for a skip token from the MTX store for my alt characters. That's the missing piece of the pie when it comes to older gamers. Time is precious, but disposable income isn't. I don't care much for all of the aesthetic purchases, but I would 100% be buying tokens if it meant skipping the campaign for 2-3 other characters.

I don't have kids, but between my career, marriage, work around the house, other hobbies etc I just can't be bothered to run the campaign 2-4 times per league. Just not going to happen. Even if I had the time I wouldn't do it because it gets stale super quick. I basically pick one class to commit to for the league and run that. I'd love to build on the others with new mechanics and updates, but again, not at the cost of running the campaign x amount of times.

I feel like it may not be *as* bad once the game releases and we have the full campaign, but right now every campaign run is just running the first half twice in a row (cruel is a joke anyway) which REALLY makes me loathe the idea of it. I really want to start a Smith this league, but the idea of starting over in the campaign again just takes all the wind out of the sails. NONE of my friends that started playing with me are interested in grinding the campaign over and over again to try new characters.

...I'm tired boss...

What confuses me is ..
The Elden Ring comparisons.

Elden Ring is a one and done.
Not done for the month or year, once and never again.
96% of PoE2 at launch are gone.

The trials suck, everyone is forced to participate in it, ive posted enough of how i feel about them but forcing you through the worst content in the game well ..

All of the random in the game is the wrong kind of random.
In poe there used to be the sense that any moment something good could happen at random , and it did.

Now all is locked in a little box , you need to do trials to ascend, no random there.

There is no crafting, nothing but random there.

The maps and relevant items will drop from end map bosses, no random there.

Spending gold merchant generating items, nothing but random there.

Guaranteed tedium
random chance of fun.

The player count cratered like a rod from god, nothing random there.

I don't mind a bit of grind. I really don't even mind a lot of grind. However, playing games with my friends will always take priority.... if it takes too long to grind out I just wont and we will play a different game no matter how fun path of exile 2 is in its end game.

I just want the game to be good. I really like it and want to see it in it's best most enjoyable state with as large of reach as possible.
