Remove Maven as a mandatory boss fight
Title^
We have a new Atlas expansion and this is IMO a good opportunity to get rid of the worst fight in the game as a mandatory fight. Make it so completing all 3 new pinnacles grants the voidstone instead of Maven, please. Last bumped on Jun 18, 2025, 6:50:22 PM

Nothing in this game is mandatory, unless you change the definition of "mandatory" to mean that everything in the game is mandatory.

I'd rather have Maven and her memory puzzle (despite my ADHD) than Sirus going off-screen and hitting you with a "Die!" barrage.
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.
Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build! MFers found strength in their Afflictions. They became reliant on them. I am not so foolish. |

You want Maven removed because she is supposedly the worst bossfight in the game and replace her with those new 3 guys? Are you for real? Is gathering flowers in a bullet hell your idea of a good boss fight? This game has so many hilariously bad boss fights i honestly don't think Maven is even in the top 5, that new incarnation of dread boss though, is easily top 3. Even Sirus and Shaper have more actual fighting time than that shithole of a boss.

" Well, I was more thinking of the bosses in the new Atlas quest chain, not Sirus. There is a version of Sirus there as one of the fights you have to beat at the end of a memory tear, but it is quite easy. " [Removed by Support] Last edited by Yrone_GGG#0000 on Jun 18, 2025, 12:38:06 PM

regular reminder that voidstones are not MANDATORY. There exists no regular content gated behind not having them. Nor are they meant to be FREE. They are rewards for overcoming challenges in the form of bosses (preferably) OUTSIDE the normal progression of the game.
The fact that you dislike the fight is actually a good reason that it should remain as a reward for beating it. The Maven is a fight that certainly sucks at first, but it can be LEARNED and completely overcome. Starting anew....with PoE 2 Last edited by cowmoo275#3095 on Jun 18, 2025, 12:53:18 PM

" Getting your voidstones *is* part of the main progression in the main endgame system and not getting them as soon as possible will just make you drop less loot, make it harder for you to sustain maps, and makes it so you can't drop some maps at your required level at all. It is mandatory if you engage with endgame mapping. I don't understand what the harm is in putting it behind a boss that is not as annoying to fight, especially now that the new bosses are out. It's good opportunity to change this and it would tie in with the natural progression through the Atlas better. Imagine it was already changed, would you then advocate for it to be changed back to Maven? |

" This entire paragraph is not true. It is your misunderstanding of what the game is. Getting 4 voidstones is just as part of the main progression in the main endgame as reaching floor 500 in delve is, as running every breachstone is, as running a 5-way is: exactly 0% a part. It is PART of the endgame, but the vast majority of the "endgame" exists OUTSIDE what is known as "main progression". The main progression of the endgame is SOLELY: 1) The new expansion bosses 2) Completing your Atlas. The BASE, non-voidstone atlas. It's the very reason map tiers exist in the first place lol. 3) You could consider atlas specialization a part of the main endgame, as it ties directly to completing your atlas. But the actual rewards from each specialized league content is NOT. Because its not a linear part of the endgame storyline and requires you to CHOOSE to invest and run it. That's it. Everything else is EXTRA juice that you CAN add, but have to earn, find, or craft a build to handle. Additional loot and map sustain is not a guaranteed outcome of endgame. It is a specific focus of your attention. Not only that, but having 4 voidstones is simply NOT mandatory for endgame mapping profits. Period. You can pretty much ask anyone skilled at farming and they would tell you the same. The amount of times I have personally had 4 voidstones has been exactly ONCE in the entire time they have existed. Because it simply didn't matter. They are nice to have, but are by no means mandatory. Nor have they ever been mandatory. oh cmon
you are arguing in bad faith Maven's memory game is poo mechanic. that is a damn fact. there is nothing even remotely comparable in the entire game. it is annoying 'skill check' in a game where skill is expected and expressed elsewhere. it is as if chess tournaments had arm wrestling competition after 30 moves you can get used to it - esp now with no xp penalty - but i cannot imagine anyone having actual fun doing that damn 'skilful dance' note: this new poe2 boss that asks you to.. COLLECT ROSES!! (i literally burst with laughter seeing that) is close second. it at least uses mechanics from other part of the game. but the entire idea (and visuals) is so odd and cross to everything else... replacing maven with one of T17 bosses or Feared or whatever. it might be hard (maven is not hard, she doesnt even require that much dps if you know how to manage the degen balls) but at least make it a fight it is shocking comparison: 3rd and 4th voidstone. on one hand there is imo THE BEST fight in the entire game: Uber Elder. mechanical, dangerous, unforgiving but fair, challenging and very clean, no bs fight. on the other we have a maven's memory game that pretends to fit into ARPG |
