Fetid Pool worst quest ever

Fetid as worst quest?

I would have suggested the entire Battlefront quest as worst quest because instead of fighting against each other Ribbons and Blackguards team up against you :(

Well obviously. Except D2 did it much better.

There are a few D2 tributes in PoE. For example, everything going dark after you push the Vaal Ball off the pedistal? Happens when you enter Lost City in D2 Act 2.

Quest-wise, I find Fetid Pool the most annoying. Even though I do a spiral clear, the odd monster or three just refuses to show up, and sometimes I find myself combing the place multiple times before I finally get the full clear. I never had this problem in Den of Evil. I think it's because Fetid is a more open design, whereas the Den is a small cavern with narrower passages (with the exception of that ONE Fallen who slips away...).

Thankfully it's an optional quest, and some builds don't even need all of the quest-given respec points, so in those cases it's skippable. The point of "wasting" the EXP of clearing Fetid once before you receive a penalty is irrelevant, since you have the far safer and efficient Ledge and Fellshrine to farm instead.

I would love it if GGG could implement some scripted fights between those two factions, where both sides stop fighting each other and charge at you.

That sort of thing would go a long way with immersion.
And they said *I* was bad at PoE. At least I made it out of act 1 and know how to use the /dnd function. El oh fucking el.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.
I agree. Took me over 10 minutes to find the last monster one time.
What is funny though is, for noobies, who just follow the quests, hop right in, not realising that the monster difficulty is way up in cruel/merc. Almost instance one-hit death.

The game kind of tells you monster level. There is also a loading screen tip warning you about places like Fetid and Tidal in Cruel/Merc. Besides, those difficulties aren't meant to be newb-friendly, especially in HC.
As a newb who just started exploring Cruel for the first time a week or so ago, the difficulty spike in Fetid Pool came as quite a surprise. I'd seen that loading-screen warning plenty of times, but since I was a little bit over-levelled for Mud Flats I expected I'd be about even for Fetid Pool - turns out, I was way *under* levelled.

Look at it this way: Fetid Pool is only the second real quest in Act One (third if you count Hillock). In Normal, it's the same level as Lower Submerged Passage, which is pretty reasonable. In Cruel, it's the same level as Cavern of Wrath, near the end of Act I. In Merciless, it's the same level as The Western Forest half-way through Act II!

I'm not complaining; yeah, it was a bit of a surprise, but not nearly as much of a surprise as discovering the elemental resistance penalty in Cruel (I'd heard people talk about the XP-on-death penalty before, but not resistance). Given how optional the quest is, though, it seems pretty reasonable to leave it the way it is for (a) experienced players who want to show off, and (b) to give newbs a taste of what they're in for.
Generally the first thing I did when I went into a new zone for the first time was hit tab to check the monster level. Doing this will avoid any surprising gibs in a place like Cruel Fetid. Plus, if you're only playing SC, then death seriously doesn't matter until you're mid-70s, by which time you should be wise to most game mechanics. Also, if you are a few levels below a side zone, you still should not be dying to a couple of hits from the trash mobs in there. They'll hurt, but they won't kill you unless you have way too few defensive stats. If that's the case, I have no sympathy for characters with poor defensive stats, be it from badly gearing or a too offensive spec.

It was changed because everyone ignored the sidequests, specifically killing hailrake, fetid pool, graveyard cave, etc, until they were well overlevelled in the next area. As such these levels were hiked up so that going into them is more dangerous even after you have completed the content. You may notice that although the levle is the same as western forest, that at the same time most people won't do the quest until act 3 merc.
I entered the game after reading about it and one of the things I think Chris said was that side areas will scale up much faster then the main areas of an Act as you progress through the difficulties. So when I encountered side areas in Cruel and Merciless I'd check the monster levels before proceeding far in to the areas to make sure I wasn't woefully out of my league.
