Fetid Pool worst quest ever

It was changed because everyone ignored the sidequests, specifically killing hailrake, fetid pool, graveyard cave, etc, until they were well overlevelled in the next area. As such these levels were hiked up so that going into them is more dangerous even after you have completed the content. You may notice that although the levle is the same as western forest, that at the same time most people won't do the quest until act 3 merc.
I think I just did them when I was at the last level of "Effective Difference" so I would not receive an EXP penalty for clearing the zone. I even did Fetid because I knew my build called for all of the available respec points.

As a newb who just started exploring Cruel for the first time a week or so ago, the difficulty spike in Fetid Pool came as quite a surprise. I'd seen that loading-screen warning plenty of times, but since I was a little bit over-levelled for Mud Flats I expected I'd be about even for Fetid Pool - turns out, I was way *under* levelled.

Look at it this way: Fetid Pool is only the second real quest in Act One (third if you count Hillock). In Normal, it's the same level as Lower Submerged Passage, which is pretty reasonable. In Cruel, it's the same level as Cavern of Wrath, near the end of Act I. In Merciless, it's the same level as The Western Forest half-way through Act II!

I'm not complaining; yeah, it was a bit of a surprise, but not nearly as much of a surprise as discovering the elemental resistance penalty in Cruel (I'd heard people talk about the XP-on-death penalty before, but not resistance). Given how optional the quest is, though, it seems pretty reasonable to leave it the way it is for (a) experienced players who want to show off, and (b) to give newbs a taste of what they're in for.

fetid pool has one of the worst mobs in the game in undead rhoas, so even if you finish act II merciless, they could hit you for good chunks of your health.

different areas are different for underleveled character. going underleveled to flooded depth is perfectly fine, it's a breeze usually. going underleveled to fetid pool is nearly a suicide unless you have good survivability. a rare rhoa with fast and +crit strike chance or +physical dmg will own your corpse.

Compared to back when games made you draw your own maps and sometimes, SOMETIMES made deal with red herrings, the Fetid Pool is child's play.

I just had a Wizardy VI flashback and blame you for my suffering

They could make all kinds of changes to this simple side quest orrrrrrrrrr

you could just get better.

it's a tribute to a D2 quest.

All this quest needs is that last 5 mobs are shoved on minimap/map. Why its not done - idk. Apparently running in circles for 5 mins lokin for last mob is also hardcore.

Try the full clears challenge. I still get nightmares about River Crossing and Warehouses.
Unbelievable.

Play a different game if you're going to complain about a quest to clear an area taking up ten minutes of your precious time.

Would you like flashing strobe lights on the mini map with arrows that tell you exactly where every mob is, and which ones are rares? You want a Heads Up Display that flashes you the direction of things? Maybe we can have an overlay they shows you a pathing line to every chest in the zone.

Can't even be bothered to look what level the monsters are in a new zone you've never been in before?

Upset that your progress to finishing an act is hindered by potentially dangerous mob charge in a quest that is merely a bonus reward and not needed.

I love the Fetid Pool quest exactly as it is and would find it disappointing if anything was changed. It's fun and can be a challenge if you jump into the middle of mobs and go crazy. I'd like to see new quests in future acts like this, puzzles and challenges, things that can't just be herp derped.

Maybe you'd like an animated figure to appear on your screen and give you advice. A dancing pig perhaps? A little paper clip from msoffice? HI, LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE ON A QUEST. WOULD YOU LIKE HELP WITH THAT??? boink boink

please, alt-f4 and uninstall the game and play animal crossings

stop over moderating that makes the official forums useless
if running circles for 5 minutes annoys you, try running circles for an hour.

where? Lunaris Temple level 3. "clear all" challenge on Anarchy. Piety is dead and the "/remaining" command says there are 2 monsters left.
aaaaargh!

Fetid Pool isn't that bad compared to some of the areas I cleared for this, and the few areas I still need to - like Fellshrine :)

we seriously need to have the 5 last monsters or so, marked on the mini-map.
but only if they are in areas you already explored - because having a Water Elemental finally rise from a spot you passed 10 times before, is the definition of "psychological trauma".
