Kripparrian is playing poe!!!!
" I'm definitely glad that the game will receive an influx of players, but it also saddens me that people have a cult following for clicking buttons on a screen. Are people really that desperate for someone to idolize? |

" It's not about "clicking things on screen". He is generally a very charismatic guy, and fun to listen to. Clicking sound also a bit off. It's not just that he is clicking and that is interesting. He actually has shown that he has skill, because it's not only clicking, it's strategizing, and being responsive to the digital environment. The means in which he performs are secondary, the way he interacts with this reality (game in this case) is more important. Not everyone can be as good in achieving a good performance in a/any game. |

Good Item Progression video. He does explain things very well and the video would definitely be educational to noobs.

" I think you need to have more faith in GGG, my friend. Krip may not have bought a supporter pack (yet?), but him playing the game and promoting it HAS generated a lot of new people, as well as revenue for GGG, which is positive for the company AND the community. All he got was a token of appreciation, and there is nothing wrong with that, in my humble opinion. Ash |

Kripp getting a mini-pet is P2W how? That's probably the most moronic statement I've read on these forums. Not because a cosmetic item has no bearing on 'winning', but he received it from GGG as a token of appreciation (so there was no 'pay') for giving them not only attention but a soap box to address the community for a few nights.
Honestly, gaming hipsters just love to hate people who get a lot of attention. Get over yourselves and enjoy the game. Let people who want to watch entertaining people game have that. It makes the game experience feel like so much more of a community. I know some of you miss being all indie with 'Oh, I play PoE... you've probably never heard of it.' But honestly, the game needs support in order to grow. There's absolutely nothing wrong with a few thousand players influxing into this community. You all know how to turn off global chat by now. |

" Annnd there's my que to tap out. Congrats on a fun game GGG. It sure has been an enjoyable run, hasn't it? The fact remains: I and many others enjoy the game for what it is. It had nothing to do with some youtubers fotm. To the former: feel free to contact me in game for any help or just running stuff. To the latter: You still going to be here when he bails on GGG just like he did with blizzard? |

" Ash you seem like a nice guy, and probably the only person I rather enjoy listening to on Krip's stream. However, Fayul has a point. And the point should be made that Krip should not be the only person receiving "tokens of appreciation" if it is in fact only because he brings in a lot of new people and revenue. In that case, I surely expect the same will be done for TotalBiscuit, and Kungen who easily bring in as many if not more viewers than Krip. Not the mention the multitude of other smaller streamers like Bwana that bring in several hundreds of people as well over a longer period of time. I'm glad Krip is streaming PoE, I'm not going to sit here and pretend I enjoy him as a gamer or as a streamer, but the publicity for PoE is great. However, it does appear that he is getting much more "tokens of appreciation" than any of the other large streamers and supporters of PoE. I always thought the future depended on the choices you made. Last edited by Zyx#1905 on Aug 1, 2012, 3:09:06 PM

" Wow. Nailed it. And I think the "token of appreciation" should have been something different. Kiwis should be reserved ONLY for people who financially support the game during closed beta. They are a symbol of "putting your money where your mouth is." Once you start giving them away, you ruin their importance. I didn't buy a Gold pack just to have a shiny gold kiwi. Kiwis are just pixels, after all. I bought the Gold pack to support GGG as much as possible, and the kiwi is my in-game representation of that financial support. EDIT: A big problem I have with this "token of appreciation" is that it was given out on a qualitative basis. We can't start giving out perks to people because "they've probably brought at least this or that many people to the game." Perks are given out quantitatively, at fixed price points. That is the only fair way. It is impossible to keep track of who has sent who over here. It is a line that should not even be approached. Yet, it is a line that was crossed when Kripp got a silver kiwi. Last edited by Astramor#7990 on Aug 1, 2012, 3:55:21 PM

I initially thought Kripp bought a silver pack, not that he was given a silver kiwi for free.
More than anything I find this disappointing. I would hope that GGG would have been confident in marketing the game on it's own merits, and not doing something that can easily be perceived as essentially a kickback. While I personally don't believe there was any quid pro quo nor really any suspicious intent of any sort, and hopefully most supporters don't neither, the damage to perception is already done. What's even more disappointing is that Kripp seems to genuinely enjoy the game, and even from a marketing standpoint giving him a free kiwi seems to have had very little value, as it looks like he still would be playing/praising the game without it. " I find the fact that he has a following absolutely disgusting. But from a business perspective I can completely understand why Chris would offer up a token like that. Look at any other company in the service industry (among other things online gaming does fall into that category) and you'll find companies that will give away things that their current customers have already paid for or earned via some other means. It's all about marketing. Why some random internet geek has a "following" is beyond me but it's simply good business sense to throw him a bone when doing so means exposing more people to your product. Let's not forget guys the game is F2P so marketing the game on it's own merits while a great idea is still costly. Getting free publicity is an awesome idea regardless of how you do it. |
