A Unique for lightning casters is direly needed. Let's brainstorm!
Buzzkill — Imperial Staff
+2 to Lightning Gems in this item 160-180% increased Physical Damage 50-70% increased Lightning Damage 10-15% increased Cast Speed You are Lucky when Shocking enemies 30% reduced Shock Duration on enemies Gems in this item are supported by level 10 Increased Area of Effect There, your mandatory OP anti-spork staff. Since RF can't be sustained without a shield, and low life isn't as practical either, sufficient to say this won't power spork up even more, but all the other lightning skills, including Lightning Strike, may see a good boost. <Tyrfalger> Exactly, the next act is going outside Sarn and into those wheat fields (see the map) to become a farmer. Then we can spend our days endlessly farming. Wait a minute...

" There is a lack of lightning spells. Ice: Ice Spear, Cold snap, Freezing Pulse, Ice Nova, Arctic Breath. Fire: Fireball, Flamestorm, Incinerate. Plus Flame Totem and Molten Shield. With burning damage you have Fire Trap, Righteous Fire and Searing Bond. Lightning: Spark, Arc, Shock Nova, Lightning Warp and that's pretty much it. Discharge can be counted on every element. Let's see if the next skill patch contains Piety's Lightning Ball... |

There doesn't need to be more lightning caster stuff, there needs to be more lightning caster stuff for non-totem casters. Moonsorrow has fairly average stats as a caster weapon, the other two uniques use blood magic and I think only people that really use them are dual spork totem builds.
Here's an idea: Rod of Direct Impulse Staff +50-70% lightning damage +8-15% cast speed +5% max lightning resist +80% critical strike chance for spells gems in this are supported by lvl 11 pierce (50%) critical hits with lightning explode* totems you cast do no damage *something like melee splash, ~20% of lightning damage done to nearby enemies. So this item makes spork less effective by having pierce, breaks dual totem spork build and buffs lightning casting, plus has a unique bonus that changes the way you want to use lightning spells. In fact the bonus is quite strong- increased area of effect would work on lightning spells! It still allows totem use, detonate dead will still be sorta useful for removing corpses and totems can still be used for buffs/debuffs. |

" What did Soul Taker "fix"? Your level 20 cleave 6L that had all the highest cost gems in the game? Because my 4L physical cleave tears through EVERYTHING using 2 one-handed axes that AREN'T Soul Taker, and I DON'T have Bringer of Rain. Back on topic: I don't really feel we need a Lightning Staff unique. I think lightning as a whole needs to be looked at: Spark is only really good on a totem with fork, Arc is pretty piss poor in almost any situation, and Shock Nova is even more so. We just need tweaks to the spells and we wouldn't have any real issue. I do like the idea of using "Lucky" on lightning damage to somewhat bypass the wild min-max ranges. i too fas fo youuuuuuu Last edited by Duskbane#4733 on Jul 14, 2013, 2:42:06 AM

I'd like some sort of dagger that does, all +physical damage gets converted to +lighting spell damage.

" I'm near-certain it'd be mechanically possible to separate movement speed from ability to move. I mean I'm sure we've all seen Shocked Miscreants in Lunaris Warp after their death. |

Since lightning spells have low crit chances, how about something that makes a non-crit(ideally ightning based)build viable(since we all know that in the current state of the game pretty much every spellcaster builds crit).
Maybe something like: Galvanic Absolution: Primordial Staff 50-151 dmg +(70-100)% spell damage +15% spellcasting speed 50% more shock duration Your lightning damage deals 60% more damage per shock charge rather then the normal 40% more. Your spells cannot crit So basically you give up crit- which normally would constitute 40-210% more average DPS and extra shock chance(not to mention longer shock duration on crits then normal shock procs)- and in return gain at full shock stacks about a 2.8/2.2=27% more average damage- and the 50% more shock duration would help keep shock charges up despite the lack of crit. Not to mention with all the passive skill points & itemization you save on not having to build crit, you could probably manage another +50% DPS or so in other stats, so a net 1.5*1.3= about 91% damage- which is certainly weaker then the high end of what crit can do, but hey, it's a start. Want to see new uniques, special for Arc, NOT totem Spoks. But only usefull uniques with rly helpful stats/rolls. Shocks alrdy fine, so need dmg and something new and very useful for boost dmg for Light spells like Arc. Last edited by Fantoster#6342 on Jul 17, 2013, 2:18:08 PM

Rather than a unique a new spell could work too.
Lightning Blast Hit target for lightning damage. Lightning explodes from the target doing (some) lightning damage to all nearby enemies. It's not a projectile so projectile supports wouldn't work. It's a lightning spell built for single target hitting, though chain can make it multi-target. Lightning doesn't have a good single target spell. This game has had a problem with lightning since closed beta. Arc turned out to be disappointing because again it was not a single target spell. There are no uniques really built for a lightning caster that doesn't use totems, while fire has tons of items and cold has quite a few. To be honest lightning casting really needs an OP unique to bring it up to par, and that unique must not be usable by spork totem build because that build is already too strong. If they made one of these patches add some lightning themed uniques, with at least 2 caster ones, it would help a lot. I'd play this game more but I get so sick of waiting for a unique tailored for my build and it just never happens, I've been waiting since closed beta. If only I had the cash I'd have donated for diamond and got one forced into the game. |
