How to beat Vaal Oversoul as a melee evasion character?
" I play a two handed sword, evasion user, and I feel that run speed is the best defense in this fight. I keep running circles around him, until he's unloaded his lazer, then hit him hard when he starts casting minions, or ice. He hardly uses the explosion in my fights, because I am not close enough during his downtimes. The hardest part of the fight is the snipers actually. They hurt badly, and since I spend the summoning time beating the boss, they often get off quite a few shots before they die. I am a ranger, though. And the increased health from flasks nodes makes my instant potions very effective. Which means I can take a bit of damage from these minions during the battle. Thanks for all answers guys. I'm afraid leap slam is a great battle opener but a poor escape move. Often I only run around 10% runspeed and that might be part of my trouble too.
About the TP abuse, I have nothing against it personally but the load screen with insecure results drives me crazy ;) ✠ ✠

" To use tp's in the overseer fight requires you to have max lightning resist, or it's quite suicidal. "That's how you die properly, Sailor Boy.."

You might be able to get some summons or a totem that summons guys. I like totem with skeletons I feel like its broken based on the rate it respawns the skeletons. This might help a bit to have vaal and his adds focus some damage on other targets.
Beef up your Fire resistance since 60 or 40 percent of his big melee smash is fire damage, in the past it was 100% fire damage which means if you had low fire res you could get one shotted from that smash. The falling rocks you will have to avoid, I run in an enormous circle around the room when they are falling. Also abuse the hell out of your portal scrolls and refill your potions as you need it. You can always farm more scrolls later. Take your time and kick his ass! Cheers, Juju There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root - Thoreau, Henry David

I died at 65 with 2980 hp and a 1700 full molten shield at 80% fire resist from Vaal merciless melee hit(1hit). I was using ground slam to stay at range but he respawned on top of me, and i didnt move in the 1 sec following my ground slam. I refreshed enfeeble,he casted it and i died instantly from it. He was at 12% and my partner culled it at 10%... So i m pretty sure that the fire part can hardly be mitigated by any melee character. Btw i had 72% physical reduction as well from molten shield and 5 stack of endurance.

The Slam is ~6k physical damage + ~6k fire damage, so you never want to take a hit. Dont think armor can save you ;)

" ouch When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself

armour can possibly save you , on a defensive character + granite flasks u can get like 20-30k defence at that level

I like Vaal's tendency to crap the pants of melees.
I play melee myself most the time and just stay everytime for the decision: Will I group up with someone trusted or will I risk it solo? I just wish they would add a boss with a mechanic which is more deadly for ranged characters than melee characters. So they can feel the same situation and get into some group play. Edit to post above: Armor mitigation gets really worse at high damage numbers so I would not risk that using a HC character. Last edited by Nightmare90#4217 on Feb 20, 2013, 9:12:53 AM

Get close once he goes into rock mode.
Only make sure he changes the arm and goes to rock mode instead of mace attack. Rocks drop rates are higher the further you are away. |
