How to beat Vaal Oversoul as a melee evasion character?

Basically you want high move-speed (or whirling-blades, shield charge etc.), high atk-spd and good "evasion" (not the ingame version though^^).
If you attack him while he spawns minions, throws ice or casts rocks it is fairly safe. But note that he does not have to switch arms after the rockfall, so he can directly make an attack (funny enough he has 4 arm-modes but only 3 arms, since he also needs an arm-switch for summoning). " I doubt it. 6k Fire-Damage means 600 Fire-Damage with 90% Resistance and 6k Physical Damage vs. 20k (not calculating that he one-shots you with enfeeble^^) would mean about 22% damage-reduction + 20% from endurance charges = 42%. In that case it would only require about 4100 HP to survive the hit without enfeeble. With 30% Enfeeble the damage would drop to 4200 and even without endurance charges 3700 HP would be enough to survive. So he either has fire-penetration or deals substantial more damage than that. We should propably try what is required to survive the hit on merciless and calculate the damage-potential based on that. The fire-part can be almost ignored, since 90% resistance reduces it to a rather trivial amount of damage. A small note. In theory you can dodge every hit with immortal call :P But it is propably as tricky as moving away from the smash^^. But the biggest problem often is that you accidently targeted the oversoul due to his size and moved back to him instead of away. Putting "move" on the left mouse-button is a good solution for such in general, but I'm not sure if it helps here. |

was just in a party where 2 people died in merci and I was like.. mannn.. then sure enough I get 2 hit by his rocks.. rip.. im done; too much time and I feel like I'll never get to end game. Thought this was it. Oh well, what can I expect just hopping in never having done merciless before. FUCKKKK.. lvl 68

Hit it when he's not shooting lasers, other than that use traps/totems being melee is no real excuse not to use all means at your disposal.

" Hey im not good at this stuff, that were just the values to which devmoon came during his testing (live on stream). Idk if he made a mistake, but this is what he did (if i remember correctly): He took a slam to the face with Immortal Call up making him immune to phys. dmg. He took ~1k dmg hit. He had enfeeble up (32% at the time afaik) He had maxed Fire resi ( sorry i cant remember if he went > 75% / used resistance aura ) He then calculated the fire hit to be ~6k and assumed the Slam is 50% fire/ 50% physical [Beyond] Hajhji/MahouShoujo_Madoka

Hmm I did vaal today twice on hardcore merciless as a witch. I got plenty of armor, 2.5 k life.
Can anyone tell me what to do about the "rain of rocks" he does? I always get hit for about 2k life. Usually I take a granite + pots, but also enter a tp because life drops so hard it's crazy. " Use the immortal call skill as soon as you see rocks falling. Also note that if you're close to vaal, no rocks will fall on you - Of course, then you run the risk of being hit by his slam attack. |

So been playing some cruel today, working my way towards act 3 cruel. Running through fields and forest with not a care in the world. Got to Vaal and was feeling pretty confident i could take him down with my marauder buddy. The battle started and things seemed to be going well, then he decided that he didnt want my character to be in HC anymore and BAM im dead.
My Stats were(Roughly): 7K Armour 75% Damage Reduction 2k Evasion 35% Chance to Evade 1k Life 75% To all Resistances Apart from Chaos He just ripped through my armour life butter, laughed at my evasion and that was it. So crazy how much that move does |

Armour is less effective against huge hits like Vaal merciless slam.
That's why your 7k armour doesn't do a lot more than a papershield. Kudos to you that you made it to merciless vaal with a ridiculous 1k HP, I would have died in cruel with that I guess. edit: just noticed you were in cruel, still pretty low life for end of A2.
